You don't have to be logged on to facebook, if you are on a site (like tgerdroppings) that has a facebook share button, then everything you do on your browser is recorded, hell you don't even need a facebook account it goes by your device ID.

Any web site that uses the Facebook comment system or uses any kind of Facebook plug-in means that Facebook is tracking your visits whether or not you have an account. First they track your IP address, then they associate it with other bits of data, and they build a profile of you. I think it gets to the point where they don't even need an IP address to know it's you. So using a VPN won't protect you from the tracking. So get off the grid or just accept your fate as a Facebook product and a Google product, whose information is sold repeatedly for profit. That's the cost of using "free" web sites.

So much data is collected these days that I don't expect any privacy online...
But if one of those companies experiences a breach or misuses the data, I hope and expect they will be sued to hell, with jail time for some employees depending on the circumstances.
