I' a vet and served my country in a combat zone. I believe in freedom of speech and expression, but what people fail to understand is while you have the right to free speech you DO NOT have the right to free conduct, nor do you have the right to be heard.

Not advocating anything.... just curious how dedicated these "peaceful protester" are...

Exactly this. It's our nation's identifying virtue. The ability to say or do ignorant shite is the direct result of our country's armed servicemen.

Yeah! Stealing people's property is American AF!!!

You don't have the right to free, lawful conduct?

I get that military service members fought, myself included, and died for the freedoms that these idiots take for granted.
Who exactly did you fight? And if you died then how are you posting on this site?

Why aren't they being charged with assault and theft? Clearly, running at him the way they did, they put him in reasonable fear of suffering a battery and, knowing the flag he dropped was his and not theirs, taking it and leaving with it is obvious intent to deprive him of it. Cheney Joseph would be pissed if you didn't charge them with robbery if that hypothet were on a freshman criminal law exam.

When you serve in the military, you serve in places where the only reminder of home is that flag. When you're taking cover from enemy fire. Wondering why the hell you are there, the flag on your arm stands out reminding you of home and the people you fight to protect.
I'm a 3rd generation veteran with family who have served in every war since WWII including Iraq and Afghanistan.
I never served a minute in combat. In fact, it has been 16 years since I served in the Navy. But if I EVER see any of you hippie motherfrickers disrespecting the flag, I will pummel you.
Consequences be damned...
You see the flag as a symbol of mismanaged policies. I see our flag as the banner under which men and women have fought/died for something other than themselves.
Choose a different way to protest

Point of clarification. The "protestors" dropped the flag. The Marines did not take it away from them.

Those marines are huge douchebags.

bullshite. I see the flag as a symbol of freedom, including the freedom to burn it, fly it upside down, use it as toilet paper or run it up a pole and salute it. I wouldn't desecrate a flag because I LIKE what it represents.

And with that you destroy the very thing it stands for. The very thing that makes it worth saluting.

Destroying freedom be damned? Why in the frick did you serve if you don't value freedom?

So if you drop your wallet on the ground, I have the right to pick it up and keep it? Ridiculous.
They ran to attack him, he dropped it in the process of escaping and they picked it up and took it. If it was a woman with a purse and a thug doing that, there would be no doubt it was robbery.

According to the law, flying the flag upside down is a distress symbol.
What they did is like calling 911 or sending an SOS from a boat as a political protest.

Watched "Only the Dead See the End of War" today. Such a powerful, tragic, and impactful documentary. Those men and women have my utmost respect and gratitude.
Posted on 3/29/16 at 7:02 pm to yankeeundercover
There was no "reclaim"ing. It was not their flag to begin with. In other words, they ran off with a flag that was not theirs
Posted on 3/29/16 at 7:05 pm to LSUTANGERINE
frick you. They rescued the flag from an idiot.

He dropped it while he fled. Sorry if he is a coward.
Would think he would have demonstrated some courage if he felt so strongly about his protest.

What a great way to honor your family's legacy, by being a violent piece of shite criminal.
