Attorney Lionel "Lon" Burns said 21-year-old Eddie Dingle was holding his infant daughter when a melee broke out between two groups of spectators at the parade and someone struck him in the head with a pipe wrench. When he saw someone charging at his mother, Dingle pulled out a pistol with his free hand and shot the other man dead, Burns said.

quote:

The victim takes off his shirt and comes charging at the guy who's in a daze and has the baby in his arms," Burns said Friday. "The dad, at that point, decides, 'I have to use deadly force to protect my family.' " Asked why Dingle ran from the scene if he felt he had acted justifiably, Burns said, "He and his family were not going to stay out there and be attacked."

I feel like a pipe wrench would have done more damage than that.

I'm betting there's some video of this somewhere.

That looks like a "punch me in the eye so I can make up a story" injury.

Will be interesting to see if the evidence supports his story.

It’s still illegal to have a gun anywhere around the parade routes

If true then give the guy a medal. If false, the chair.

I'd suffer those consequences if having it saved my family.

frick, I've seen a few fights break out on the parade route down St. Charles. I wouldn't doubt that happened and I don't blame the guy for shooting him. Just lucky no one shot him after that.

Idk, even if he lied about the pipe... if some dude was attacking me with my kid, even with backscratcher, it would take a measured determination whether or not he eats lead

If his story is true, I have no problem with his decision to defend his family.
