The vast majority of 65 year-olds would be retired if they were financially capable of doing so. This statistic is an indication of poverty.

The old saw in the 1960s was every year when state poverty statistics were released, the bureaucrats involved with such things in Charleston WV used to say “Thank god for Mississippi”.

It is less true now than then.
