The boost that more money in your pocket provides has come and gone.

The idea is that the $600 saved annually by Americans is less significant than the overall negative impact by the jobs lost.
To put it in very simplistic terms, it takes 100 people saving $600/year on gas while also spending that money elsewhere to offset the economic cost of 1 person getting laid off who was making $60k/year and spending it. It obviously is not that simple, but it illustrates the point.
I hope you aren't an economic advisor.

quote:I've always felt that this is short-sighted. I get people spending now, benefit the economy now, but when things dip and people have savings and/or less debt, then the detriment of the downswing is offset to some degree.
Saving the money in your bank account doesn't help anyone economically.

You know there's a problem when your CFO is living paycheck-to-paycheck.

They could hire slackster to replace him. He seems to have a deep grasp on how the economy functions.

quote:Are oil prices the only thing that impacts ETFs? A quick Google search reveals a major bankruptcy of Republic Airlines due to a Pilot Shortage. Doesn't seem like that would have a positive contribution on the Airline ETFs.
Wait, why are airline ETFs down 4% YTD despite oil's 19% fall since the start of the year?

I don't get why people get extended enough on their house where they can be wiped out in a year. Buy a $500K house instead of a $1M house (or whatever proportionally) and you have two or three years to figure it out vs. one.
I am not one of those "gleeful to see somebody else have hard times" assholes either. This has just always been something I don't get, especially when you consider the last couple of rooms on a big house probably aren't even used all that much.

Holy shite. Wow.
How many jobs do you think are lost due to the oil bust?
60k, tops?

go on...
With houses in Houston going for way less than they were worth a few months ago, The Almighty Grand Master Chicken should invest in corporate housing for the honorable TD admins.

You're dumb. Normalize that shite and then come back with something. Yes it's all down relative to the past year or two but compare all those data points against the last time gas and oil were at these prices. Anything less than its peak is always worse when compared to the peak.

What's lost in the real estate dooms day is that prices were stable then inflated and are stabilizing again.

I think one of the biggest issues is that there were/are many in O&G who make more than their college-educated peers and that has chapped the collective arse of the public in this area.
This is precisely why you see the hate in any oil and gas related thread. This is the world we live in now. Instead of being happy with yourself and striving to accomplish your own goals people just want to tear others down. Notice how you never see any 10 page threads started here hating on janitors? The envy has gotten out of control and the media and politicians love to throw fuel on the fire.
