A 50 year sentence? He won't.

The sentencing hasn't been issued yet. I've read that he could serve between 40-50 years. Considering his crimes, that seems pretty light to me.

Seriously doubt the judge gives him any possibility of parole before 40ish years.

Which is still absurd.

We need to just shoot people like this and clean up the gene pool.

Hopefully he gets killed in prison before that.

That's because they're referred to as "accidents."

With evidence that strong, I wonder why they let him plea. Hopefully tLSU can offer some insight

Orleans Parish juries

Too risky to take it to trial considering how easily a jury there can be swayed to believe that this animal was a good baw gon' wrong.

Orleans Parish juries

This is the sad truth

If your victims are white then you're looking at potential for jury nullification

Also, the victims of the rape would probably prefer a 50 year plea deal than have to get up and testify and relive one of the most horrific and embarrassing moments of their lives.

If he's pleading to any sort of sex crime I believe he will have to serve day for day

If he's only pleading to the attempted murder he'll still have to serve at least 85%

His plea deal should have been life without parole. Death sentence case if he wanted to fight it.

He didn't commit a crime that was subject to the death penalty

I'm going on shouldas here. Not blaming the prosecutor just thinking out loud. Just saying the heinous nature of the shooting doesn't change in my mind on account that his gun jammed and the shot didn't kill the guy.

I would 100% rather be shot in the stomach and have non-life threatening injuries than blow a dude.

bullets are unpredictable, the abdomen houses a ton of things, lots can be fatal, but at the same time lots can be VERY morbid.

it could bounce and have hit:
Aorta
IVC
multiple parts of the colon
small intestines
pancreas
spleen
kidneys
spine/spinal cord
just to name major ones, the list goes on and on.

paraplegic or blow a dude?
dialysis or blow a dude?
ileostomy/ostomy bag or blow a dude?

It is fair to say some psychiatric illnesses as more morbid, but shite happens.

tl;dr, being shot fricking sucks but blowing a dude forcefully is pretty bad too.

attempted murder should carry the same sentence as murder.

Absolutely. Dumbest F-ing thing ever and we continue to act like the intent is different. The only difference between the two is that one is usually just a better shot than the other.
