I bet they do a lot with their life, they just don't have to clock in to do it.

Inflation is something you have to take into account when you retire. My dad figured on giving himself a 4% "raise" every year when calculating where he needed to be to retire.
Government employees with defined pension don't seem to understand that if you retire at 55 with 80% of your highest salary you are gonna be a broke fricker in 25 years

he is obviously smart...just don't know what he will do with his free time. I imagine he will work again.

A guy at my office retired less than a year ago. He died two months ago.

this. that guy is going to be bored out of his mind in 6 months.
honestly i never understood the mindset to live like a fricking homeless person while you're young and sack away all your money for 65 when you could easily die from a heart attack or be in poor health at that age.
there's balance. you have to live a little. hell i want to visit places & do crazy physically demanding things now while i still can.
who cares if you have scrooge mcduck stacks of cash at 65 if your knees are shot and you are fat and have no hair.

This is my outlook for the most part. I'm going to enjoy my youth while I have it. I'm not going to bankrupt myself, but I'm not eating ramen everyday and pinching pennies either.

My grandfather retired at the age of 50 and has been living in retirement longer than he actually worked. He travels, goes to the casino, plays cards with his friends at the bar, drives to this little gas station every morning to have coffee with his buddies. It sounds pretty awesome to me.

I think he plays cards, but I'm not certain. Definitely doesn't play bingo.

In retirement, Hardekopf is still frugal, and proud of it, showing off his $6 phone, used car, and a bloated coupon bag. The house and the pool? Purchased, in full, at the bottom of the Florida housing market.
No thanks. I like my toys too much. I don't go to work everyday to live in self induced poverty. That's just sick.
