Sometimes when you're that good and you've looked death in the eye something like this gets overlooked. I bet they've both seen worse conditions skiing.

If anyone is interested in climbing at all there's over 2 hours of HK on the podcast enormocast talking about his trip in Patagonia where he and Jason Kruk summited the first “fair means” ascent of Cerro Torre’s Southeast Ridge.
The kid was full of life and sounds so energetic. Damn shame his guilt overcame him and led to this.
Episodes 6 and 7.

My thought is that it is very disrespectful to her memory to do that. Did he really think it would make her happy to know that if she were to die somehow, he would just compound the tragedy by adding another snuffed out life? Of course not.
The only explanation is a weird romanticized relationship with the idea of death. Such a terrible undervaluing of the preciousness and gift of life.

Yep and he used his fearlessness for his own gain. No offense, but this situation is a Darwin award even though it's still sad.
He's selfish to the extent that he never thought about what he could contribute to other people outside of his own family and significant other. He certainly had plenty he could have given to the world, but instead he chose not to give it to anyone but a few and I feel sorry for him that he saw it that way.
There's always someone you can give to no matter what and life is short enough as it is.

I'm no liberal. I generally respect an adult's right to do with himself what he wants. Including suicide. But of course this was an emotional response. He shouldn't have done it. But he did it and it can't be reversed. So what do you want the parents to say?
