Honestly Norwegians are pretty goofy. Most of them have not really experienced much adversity, since their country won the oil lottery and is very genetically homogeneous.
Had a Norwegian tell me a story once about his buddy who tried to pet a police horse at Mardi Gras and ended up getting charged with Felony Carnal Knowledge of a Horse or some shite. Not too much going on there in the way of 'street smarts.'

That's definitely manslaughter. "Scary noise at somewhat late hour" does not equate to "need for deadly force."

When keeping it real goes really wrong.

If the guy was using a typical semi-automatic handgun, I doubt the distance was more than 10'. Sounds like he hit the guy exactly where he was aiming, and that's not easy with a semi-automatic handgun, particularly when you're awww scayud by duh mean bush man.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame. OR because we are talking about Florida people: Shot through the heart and your to blame.

In other localities/states they'd be looking to put the guy away for the rest of his life.
Glad this DA is sensible.

Bunch of asshats in this thread. You don’t go banging on someone’s door at nearly midnight, and then come jumping out of the bushes at them.
You folks that want to use this to take guns from people or act like this man did something wrong suck. If you were in the same situation, maybe you would have had a good chuckle at the surprise this time, but the other 99% of the time you would have been the victim of a crime. Hopefully only you would be the victim, and not your wife or kids.
The question about how far the guy was from the shooter is a good one. It takes about 1-1/2 seconds for an assailant to cover 15 feet.

Are you....are you retarded?
Someone jumping out of the bushes and coming towards me in the middle of the night can reasonably considered life threatening.
I don't know if he's got a weapon, I can't tell who it is. If I hesitate 5 seconds to ask questions or try to see in the dark, I could be shot, stabbed or disarmed.
What I do know, is that my expectation is that anyone not wanting to harm me wouldn't hide in my bushes at damn near mid night then jump out at me.
Unfortunately the SiL made a dumb decision that resulted in a very unfortunate accident.

No one's personal safety is an absolute good, in any workable system of ethics.

Hahahahaha this is why I get my news only from the OT. This is awesome and before anybody judges me for laughing, I’d love for someone to shoot me to death and I’m innocent of no wrong doing. It’s a great gift to be liquidated but you didn’t harm anyone in the process. You die with no blood on your hands.

Or shoot your son in law surprising you For your birthday just wanting a hug.

Nah, Just someone who understands the law and standard gun safety rules.
Here is the first one from the NRA when using a loaded firearm:
quote:
When using or storing a gun, always follow these additional NRA rules:
Know your target and what is beyond.
Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt. Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target. This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential for mishap. Think first. Shoot second.

Same people ignoring this rule here probably get all pissy if someone briefly "muzzle sweeps" them with a disassembled firearm at a gun shop.

First of all, the NRA is a shitty, disingenuous gun control organization.
Second, ever ponder how many people would be dead if they took the time to do all of that in a life or death situation?
Lastly, every situation is different, but if you beat on my door at midnight, and then hide and jump out at me, you are probably getting shot.

In a coincidence that may have contributed to Dennis' state of mind the night of the shooting, another relative had pounded on his front door at about 9:30 p.m. The two had a "verbal altercation," Johnson said, and Dennis chased that relative off.
Have we talked about this part of the story yet?

I bet he won't do that again.
