So if a civilian owns a gun, there is no punishment for not identifying your target before firing a weapon....

Yikes

A scary noise followed by an unidentified person jumping from bushes does, however.

You have the right to protect yourself from a reasonable threat. If it is reasonable for someone to perceive their life is endanger then they can use force to protect themselves.

Hence why it is stupid and dangerous to beat on someone's door and then jump out of the bushes to scare them in the middle of the night.

That's definitely manslaughter. "Scary noise at somewhat late hour" does not equate to "need for deadly force."

You should wait until the person who hid in the bushes, jumped out of the bushes at almost midnight shoots you before shooting back.

How does one determine what a “reasonable” threat is without identifying what they are shooting at?

When I was young, I knew a guy who was killed during a similar situation. Except, this guy was in the bushes taking a shite. The folks who owned the property had been having problems with raccoons getting into their garbage and were, evidently, fed up. The owner shot into the bushes and killed the guy mid-wipe.
True. Story.

I know this making national news and Facebook and every other site will definitely really help the family recover. Nothing says overcoming grief like this entire country full of nitwits commenting and giving an expert opinion on the tragedy.

Also, the poster saying that it is stupid for people to have guns legally purchased should be kicked in the nuts

If someone is bum rushing you at midnight, that is a reasonable threat, identified or not.

You shouldn't have to wait for a fingerprint analysis to pull the fricking trigger.

Who the hell expects their son-in-law, who lives all the way across the Atlantic in Norway, to be hiding in one of their bushes at 11:30 at night? Usually in these instances, someone who jumps out at you from the bushes at that time of night means to do bodily harm to a person.

You have an interesting definition of "ultra rare," given that there are two examples of this on page one of this board right now.

People with guns need to be more responsible. Tired of this shite, and I say that as someone with a weapon's license and a loaded handgun about 6' away from me.

I know there has been an epidemic in my neighborhood of burglars, murderers, and rapists knocking on doors and jumping out of bushes.

And finally what a dumbshite daughter who did not provide some sort of buffer in this hole thing. She dropped the ball.

Plot twist.

What if she was a teacher and was frickin one of her students and she needed to eliminate her husband?

Perfect plan perhaps.
