"two years after filing for a divorce..., Zelasko won a Mega Millions jackpot in 2013...the divorce wasn’t final until 2018"

So he files for divorce in 2011 and it isn't final until 2018.

WTF?

So he could go buy a new vehicle and she would be responsible for half the debt because I’m sure he bought a vehicle during the marriage. The logic is faulty.

half is half...I had to split both assets and debts with mine

He should have given it to his best friend and split it with him. What an idiot.

I've thought about this. If I by some chance do win I'll be having my Dad turn in the winning ticket and have the story be that he pays and I just go pick them up for him. We'll do like a 90/10 split on pay out. Just in case the wife gets any ideas.

He shouldn’t have to split $1. That’s the fricking point.

all things considered, shitty court rulings aside, i think he'd rather have half of $40 million than not have bought a lottery ticket at all until the divorce was final.

fricking THIS

its a scam so the courts can rack up fees and lawyers are not interested in moving things along in a timely manner..at least as long as there's still money to be taken from the couple.

Half is half when you’re married not when you’re separated. You can’t go on some wild arse shopping spree and expect your separated husband to pay for half of it. That’s not how the law works.

this is going to be too good of a day for me to get too far into this, but our FC system is so fricked up, archaic, and so biased in favor of the female it's ridiculous, I could be here all day, and probably more, and I'm sure others here could too, citing example after example of travesties and injustice dealt out by the courts, but I'm not

wrong

and wrong again

OP is a pretty good example, plus some states don't recognize "separation," you're either married or not, a judge has the ability to determine a financial end date for the marriage but that can easily be overturned by the appellate court

I'd write her a check with a smile and walk away with my 24 million.

not without a contract with her agreeing that it is OVER financially, and that you are off the hook financially, forever
