Japan has a much worse mental health crisis. Japan has no mass shootings. Maybe we should assemble a team of experts to figure out why.

Most countries have the same rate of mental health issues as we do. Obviously it’s a combination of that with access to guns, but the conversation needs to be about how we can reconcile this without trampling our rights. Really difficult to navigate.

I can understand that we said mental health is a reason for our gun violence issues and you pointed out another country with mental health issues as a comparison but try to understand something.

Japan has less freedom than we do. So is the answer to remove our freedoms granted to us by the founders of this country?

Or do we need to look for our own solution to our issues? I would rather that than going the easy "just ban guns". After all, guns are a part of our country and have been since the country was founded. We have to find solutions that include them in the equation because we aren't realistic just going to phase them out. Not without a real fight no one in this country wants.

For starters, one side needs to accept that it's OK to give some of those rights back. Folks might be more amenable to discussions if it wasn't always, without fail, completely unidirectional.

Lol no it's not.

The meter needs to be continuously cranked towards more 2A. Continuously until it's at or over 100%.

Nah. I'd rather live in a more dangerous country than give up 2A rights.

Hypothetically (and I’m a big proponent of the 2A), would you advocate to give up some rights if it meant a school shooter couldn’t get access to a weapon to enter your child’s school? Hypothetically

Sure do……and it’s celebrated wholeheartedly by a certain group of people called liberals.

It's too late for that solution. If guns were banned tomorrow, it would take 100 years or more to round up all firearms in this country. Then people would start finding all the lost guns at the bottom of lakes and rivers.

Surprised it wasn't at least falsely worded as "armed with an automatic rifle"

I don't think anyone would choose an immediate threat to their child's life over their rights.

But statistically, you have a very low chance of being killed in a violent crime unless you are involved in criminal activities. Sure it happens, but the numbers are low.

I don't want to ban cars because a drunk driver could potentially kill my family.

I don’t think I’m advocating for taking any guns at all. But my question was almost rhetorical as no one will actually answer it, it’s too difficult. But it does put in perspective the reaction from some people around the country. Peoples political views seem to shift more when the subject becomes more personal.
