Odd, normally it’s the nurses who give head to the doctors.

That first guy just dodged a bullet. That is so scary. Kids take forever to get off the elevator. I’ll be taking the stairs if possible now.

My guess is the elevator dropped suddenly and he got pinned between the top of the car and the floor.

More accurate description is the elevator squeezed him into the gap as it moved unexpectedly.

It moved mid step as he was exiting...fraction of second later his right foot was touching his chin.

That is terrible I feel bad for the family if they saw how it happened. I remembered the Asian lady a few years ago who got stuck between the elevator doors and cut her in half when it went up. Her torso was inside the the elevator with the people inside with her and they were freaking out.

Yeah... There's definitely going to be a MAJOR lawsuit:

Man Crushed to Death in Manhattan Building With History of Elevator Problems
The Manhattan Promenade, a residential tower in the Kips Bay neighborhood, was recently fined for unsafe elevator conditions.

From the New York Times article....
quote:

For years, taking the elevators at the Manhattan Promenade apartment building was like taking a ride on an unpredictable, shaky roller coaster.

The cars wobbled erratically, tenants said, and often stopped between floors. Occasionally, the doors would not fully shut, and would need to be manually closed. And sometimes they failed to open at all.

quote:

The Manhattan Promenade, a building with 183 apartments at 344 Third Avenue, has two elevators for tenants. In May, the city’s Department of Buildings fined the building nearly $1,300 after inspectors found that a safety feature on one of the elevators had been disabled or tampered with.

The building was ordered on May 29 to stop using that elevator until it was fixed. City inspectors approved a repair on it on May 31 and allowed it operate again. But the violation remained open as of Thursday because the landlord had not paid the fine.

quote:

The safety feature in the elevator that had been disabled or tampered with, known as a door zone restrictor, prevents a door from opening more than a few inches when an elevator is between floors.

I read earlier that there are 27 elevator related deaths in the US out of like 15 billion elevator cycles per year.

You can do the math on those percentages. You have a better chance of dying of a simultaneous heart attack and stroke while you sleep tonight.

The NY Times article I linked above says this incident is the 3rd death by elevator in NYC since 2011.

Judging by the awkward exit of backpack guy before him in the video, it looks like the elevator was malfunctioning before he attempted to leave it.

It was either still moving down with the door open or it had opened the door while misaligned with the shaft opening and he attempted to make an exit and got caught.

Out of probably 5 million rides a day. Pretty good odds of living.

It looks to me like the elevator was moving even before the guy tried to get off. It was moving early on. Horrible and tragic way to die without a doubt, some of those other people will be taking the stairs for life that witnessed it.
