A Spanish Fork man died Wednesday after he caught fire during a family barbecue Sunday.

Larry Webster, 73, fought for his life for nearly three days before succumbing to his injuries Wednesday afternoon at 2:32 p.m.

Late Sunday afternoon, Larry Webster and his family were gathered for their annual family Easter barbecue. As he lit the barbecue outside his home, his polyester shirt caught fire.

“My mom saw the flames out the window and said, ‘Oh look, Grandpa is lighting the barbecue,’” said his granddaughter Mandee Webster. “My aunt turned around and said, ‘No, it’s him that’s on fire.’”

Truly awful, I can't think of a more painful way to die. I've never been severely burned but the relatively minor burns I have had were painful enough. To have to lie there with burns over a large portion of your body and slowly die from septic shock. no thanks.

Only a Flamer would joke about someone dying while their entire family watched him burn to death on a holiday

This is why you let your mother in law light the pit.

this is some straight up final destination type stuff. Your first thread title sparked a lot of anger.

What a terrible way to go. Polyester is devastating if it ignites on someone. Sure cotton will ignite easier, but at least it won't melt to your skin.

Poor guy lived 73 years only to be killed lighting the fricking BBQ pit, something he's probably done 100's of times before.

It’s a grim reminder that we only get one life and that we could lose it at any time over some simple shite. Condolences to the family.
