It's a rare event because there aren't very many people dumb enough to have Gila Monster as a pet.

The issue with keeping venomous reptiles and snakes is not just the danger their respective venom poses, but the possiblity of being allergic to, or developing an allergy to any particular venom.
There are examples of people being bitten once and ultimatley recovering only to develop an allergy to the same venom later in life. Dingo Dinkelman, a South African keeper and youtuber, has this issue. A black mamba bit him in 2003. He ended up on a vent and requiring numerous vials of antivenom, but survived with no lasting issues. Yet, at some point he developed a severe allergy to that and other snake venoms. He still handles and keeps them, but he keeps an extensive kit of epi-pens and adrenaline on hand at all times. Now, he is dealing with a matter of minutes instead of hours if he gets tagged by one of the species he's allergic to.
Every venom is different, sometimes within a given species. You never know how your body will react to it.

Were you satisfied with the results? Or would a google search have served you better?
It'd have served everyone else better.

Expected this to be another Florida man like the chap who was partially eaten by his monitor lizards.

Always thought Gila Monsters were cool because it looks like they are made out of marbles.

They're out in BFE for a reason.
BFE, we all said it since we were young.
Well, it was about 2005 or 2006, I was in the Western Desert in Egypt for a JV with Apache Oil Co. and Khalda Oil Co. based in Cairo. My driver was in a nice Land Cruiser, but he was a dipshit, and got us lost. He stopped the truck, so I could listen, but I could not see any lights for 20 miles in either direction.
Well, I said "I'm in BFE... Bum frick Egypt... Wait a minute, I'm in Egypt... I found it, I found BFE"
So, I called my brothers, sisters, mom/dad, and a few friends and told them I was in BFE, that I had found it.

I went on a date with a girl from LaPlace one time and one of her brothers worked at the Snake Farm.
And sorry, I lost the polaroid's she gave me.

Why would anyone want a Gila Monster for a pet?
