Ok so what you’re saying is we shouldn’t feel bad for this old fart?

Because if this is true I certainly do not

on the OT, more people will be upset about the dog than the old man.

well to be fair, the guy did tie his dog up outside in rural bear, panther, gator, etc. country.

Not discounting this at all. A black bear can be dangerous in the right setting although they tend to run from humans unless the human was blocking his escape route back into the brush.

However, and just guessing here, could it be that the old man collapsed first and the bear then did his thing? 89....guy gets shocked....etc? Like I said not discounting because they can be surprisingly mean.

Black Bear

Could very well be the only mammal that survives the pythons down that way.

I’d love to see a Florida Panther take this bear out

You're more likely to face a predatory attack from a black bear than a brown bear. Brown bears mostly attack when they cub defend or they are startled, with a smaller percentage being opportunistic attacks from food-conditioned bears. Black bears aren't nearly as prone to cub defend as brown bears. Black bears have actually stalked people.

The organization added that circumstances surrounding the attack met requirements for three bears living in the nearby South Bear Management Unit to be euthanized and for their DNA to be collected, including three adult male bears weighing 207, 263 and 434 pounds. FWC staff also attempted to trap a fourth bear but were
unsuccessful.

You do not have to euthanize them to match DNA anymore you trap and hold them and if its not a match let it go. What did they do that for I wonder?

Usually to satisfy the public. You're right, though, they don't have to do that anymore.

Was that really "stalking"?

Looked to me like that bear just kind of wanted to do its thing and those people happened to be along the path of it doing what it wanted to do.

Seems like if it really wanted to do anything to those guys it had plenty of opportunity.

Yes, It was actually stalking. If you want to over think this one, go learn up on bear behavior and have at it.

I guess, perhaps. Those dudes seemed pretty hellbent on filming the thing, so it's hard to figure why they would have just suddenly stopped if it kept following them.

As someone who has hiked that trail many times, I dont have to guess. They literally stalk you.

Mountain lions do too, most folks are just not aware enough to notice them. They'll stalk longer than a bear.

There are somewhere around 1,000 black bears in south FLA. Really not that many considering their habitat is around 7,800 square miles of what is mostly wilderness.
