I remember the Super Walmart being open on Thibodaux in 99.

Part of the mall opened before the food court area, and I have a vivid memory of looking through a tarp they hung up to block off the closed off area. Thinking “damn they putting a carousel in the mall”.

It hasn’t been mentioned and wasn’t in the food court, but there was a Cinnabon at the north end on the lower level near the escalator. The Arzis that was to the right of Canes introduced me to gyros, good times.

Arzi’s followed by a couple hours at the arcade there was a damn good day

I almost mentioned the arcade but left it out since it wasn’t food-related. That two-player shooter game with the foot pedal hide function took many a token from me back then.

remember this place at Cortana?

what was the name of the seafood place that was in the corner on the Chick-fil-A side of the food court? it was there until at least 2003-04 if not longer.
can remember the food was pretty legit and you could get a large fried catfish/shrimp dinner combo for like $10. nowadays $10 wouldn't get you a tiny, snack combo at Cane's across the food court.

I worked at cc’s coffee from 99-21, we would trade with La Madeline, Arzi’s and Cajun Cafe (Arzi’s and Cajun owned by same people). That little ole lady at Arzi’s was the mother of the owner. She would spend all day walking the food court picking up and cleaning their trays. They had the best Shwarma Pasta.

Galliano (South Lafourche) got their Walmart Supercenter first. I think it was 1995 or 1996 when it opened.
Man, bringing back some memories.

What’s weird is I don’t really remember a lot of the people. There was the heavy set manager lady (Kirby?), the black assistant manager (Deondre?), the girl that looked like Cameron Diaz who is now part of Healing Place, the native American girl (that left what looked like a miscarriage in the back toilet), and some dude who worked in the back whose name I don’t remember.
Unless you’re the dude whose dad was a financial advisor and who got moved all around the south as management for the company. Not using a name in case that’s you, but if so, we are family friends.

It makes me sad kids of today will never know the pure joy of being a teenager hanging out at the mall with your friends the way we got to do in the 80s and 90s.

Man i miss 90s early 2000s mall food courts.. i remember Oakwood on the west bank had a daiquiri shop in its food court.

Edgewater Mall in Biloxi has really come back pretty solid. Post K it was weird for a while with the odd Indian knife incense shops but it’s pretty good now. Good cigar lounge as well, which should be a requirement.
