So in your opinion, the only reason the mall of Louisiana has fallen is because of online shopping?

What caused the mall of Cortana to close?

What warranted a new mall?

Social media and texting.

The mall was as much about social interaction as it was shopping.

Well that’s not why we stopped going. You stopped going because of social media and texting?

Primarily, yes, I think online shopping has been the main reason.

Cortana was a casualty of location. That was a thriving area of the city in the 80s and well into the 90s. But most of the middle class in BR started shifting south and into the suburbs, further away from Cortana and it started going downhill.

BR has had 2 malls since the 70s and Mall of LA was built in the mid 90s when most people didn't even have the internet and when online retail was a tiny fraction of what it is now.

Worked at Cinema 8 so you know I am old. That place had to be impregnated with weed and cigarette smoke from having the lives of Rocky Horror and Kentucky Fried Movie played Friday and Saturday night for all the stoners. They would come in, order nachos, hot dogs and popcorn and have $30 to $50 bills at the concession stand back then... Have not been to Mall of Louisiana in a while, but the pretty, young over-made up middle eastern woman accosting me to sell me facial products was always fun.

I saw ET and a few of the Star Wars movies there. We went to the Broadmoor Theater a lot too because it was cheap and there were 3 kids in my family.

I just got back from the Galleria and that place was packed. I can’t compare it to Christmas past because I’ve never been there in other December’s, but there were a lot of people there. Still a very nice mall, been awhile since I’ve seen that.

I'd imagine most big cities have enough population to sustain a few decent malls. I'm not sure that BR does. Some of the fairly high profile fights, shootings etc that have happened there probably don't help.

Shoe and Hat stores. Bottom floor is like a flea market. Foreigners trying to give your samples.

Malls, for the most part, are real estate time bomb. 30 years and they are essentially blighted property

Man I had one of those little honeys approach me to buy some hand lotions and other women’s stuff one day. I was doing fine until she started rubbing it on my hands. She was gorgeous and I was (am) the biggest sucker in the world. I forget how much I spent but my wife responded “went to the mall today I see” when I got it all home.

Since moving up here to Boise we have seen a real-time decline of mall traffic.

I went Wednesday and it was fine. I was surprised how many stores are open, actually. Of course I’m comparing it to Pierre Bossier mall, which is just a couple of anchor stores and a bunch of shoe stores at this point.

Adults stopped going because of online shopping and higher end/nicer places (Towne Center).

Teens stopped going because of social media.
