We just all need to quit trying to worry about things that we have no control over and concentrate on the good things in life. We need to quit looking at TV shows and social media to find out the materialistic things that we need to be happy. If you wait on happiness, it will never come. The best thing is to wake up in the morning, thank God for the day, live in the moment and make a choice to enjoy your life for what it is. Be thankful for what you have. Love others for who they are. Do not engage in petty debates. Choose to be happy and take care of yourself and your diet.

And stop reading the GOT threads on the Movie/TV board.

Two problems with the medication route...

1. A lot of people are on medication that should not be. (People want a pill to fix them instead of changing their lifestyle or making better choices.)

2. A lot of the people that probably should be on medicine are not.

In other words, they hand out antidepressants like candy and the wrong people are taking them.

Then last night I sat down at a bar to get dinner and struck up a conversation with the guy on the stool next to me. We had a ton in common like being former Veterans and I a point I felt compelled to admit my struggles with depression. He explained he does too and there are plenty others suffering silently to do stigma
congrats on the buttsex.

I’d think most guys who sit up at the bar by themselves are depressed. Your sample size sucks.

For vets I'm sure getting reacquainted with the drudgery of regular life in the USA is unchallenging, and they miss the comradery of their former peers.

oh jeez, really? it's called life, everyone has problems, we don't have to give it a label and become victims, just grow a pair and deal with it, like everyone has always done

I want men with genuine depression to get professional help

therapy is largely a bunch of bulshit tho.

many men suffer from depression bc of immutable reasons, no professional will be able to fix that.

Answering a bunch of questions in this thread:

Yes I am a combat vet.

I stopped drinking 10 years ago but never addresses the reason I was an alcoholic.

Yes I am clinically depressed and not only on an SSRI but am going counseling.

I never realize I was truly depressed because I was raised / indoctrinated to think admitting I had an issue was weak.

I think depression gets a bad rap because of the people who claim to have it, but they really don’t

Most ‘depressed’ people know what their problem is and know how to fix it, but they are either just too lazy to make themselves better or just enjoy the attention that their ‘condition’ gives them..

Too many times, in my experience, people try to treat the effects of depression, but not the root cause of it

I think most guys miss sports etc. It sucks not feeling like your part of something.

I think a European style club sport model could help with this.

I'm depressed. I'm also an extremely prideful and strong willed man.

After the year I had last year, a lot of people would have given up; I got stronger.

My failings at this point are an inability to feel emotion and an overfondness for bacon.

What confuses me is why you were sitting at a bar.

I love this advice as I have been miserable with our company since we got bought out 2 years ago. Just resigned and am forming my own company and going out on my own.

I haven't felt this alive in years. It's amazing how the competitive drive I used to have that was suppressed from being miserable working for the man has just exploded back to life.
