Are you living on campus? Socialize. Any on-campus clubs or meetings offering free food will have a shite-ton of people there.

Guide to making friends at LSU and being somewhat normal about it:
1. Go to class. Talk to people.
2. Join a club. Talk to people.
3. Play a rec sport. Talk to people.
4. Live with roommates. Talk to them.
Do you do any of the above? I transferred to LSU and made friends very quickly.

All of the cool kids hang out in the dorms and play connect 4 until 3am.

Dude. You waited too late to exercise your social muscles.
Did you at least go join a club or intramural team? If not be damn sure you do so in January.
College is not set up like high school. Zero points are awarded for being quiet. LSU is interactive.
You have to be extra social those first few weeks of the semester. Never do anything alone. Go eat with a group from class or your dorm. At least sit with somebody you recognize from class. A few time of seeing the same person will at least start some natural conversation.
Meet other people’s friends and branch out from there.
Start study groups for classes or tests, next semester.
Also pay attention to your body language and RBF. Work on it. Youtube can help.
You’ve got a lot of catching up to do.
ETA: Damn iPhone aggressive autocorrect.

You should start with one of these. Can't go wrong.

If you like music, start hanging out at Atomic Pop shop, Spanish Moon, the Parlour, and Mid City Ballroom at night when they have shows.
If you’re religious, join one of the youth groups on campus and start eating their free meals ans attending bible study. Maybe join one of their UREC teams.
If neither of those interest you, go join some lame club.

The first friend I made at LSU was after a CANoLA meeting. We're still friends 15 years later.
