Canada: A wildfire has just broken out in Alberta on the Canadian Forces Base in Wainwright.
Both the Prime Minister and Premier have made statements saying a “serious and major incident occurred on the base, with a fast moving fire starting.” Medivac ships are flying into the area, and the official Prime Minister page is calling it a tragedy.
The local community is being evacuated, and a large firefighter response is underway. Something big must have happened to cause this fire to get such a reaction from both the Prime Minister and Premier, so quickly. Reports of major explosions.

More details expected in coming days. Asked if this incident was like any other he’d seen in the past, he responded, “no.”

The poster, @CrashMetaX says they believe it’s up to 150 injured, filling the hospital, and now utilizing an Alberta school.
“There are burn victims everywhere.” Looking like this was a major emergency response.

Something appears to have possibly gone wrong during a training exercise. There are some reports of an explosion that caused the fire. The fire then aggresively spread under very high winds.

Canada's defense minister said Saturday that people were killed and injured in an incident at a military base in Alberta that caused a major fire.
"I'm saddened to share that there have been both fatalities and injuries as a result of an incident on the base," Defense Minister David McGuinty said.
The incident occurred at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, located about 112 miles southeast of Edmonton.
"We are dealing with a serious incident at CFB Wainwright, and are fully engaged with federal, provincial and local authorities," said Gen. Jennie Carignan, chief of the defense staff for the Canadian Armed Forces, in a social media post. "Our priority remains the welfare of our members, their families and their community, and my thoughts are with all those affected by this incident."
McGuinty did not provide casualty figures or details about what caused the incident. He said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were involved in the investigation and described the situation as "very, very active and delicate."
The Canadian Armed Forces and federal, provincial and local authorities were coordinating the emergency response, he said. The nearby community of Wainwright was providing hospital and firefighting support.
The Municipal District of Wainwright said the fire crossed the base's fence earlier Saturday and was spreading rapidly due to high winds. Firefighters from multiple jurisdictions were responding, and no evacuation order was in effect.
"Our thoughts are with all the brave women and men affected," Prime Minister Mark Carney said earlier in a social media post.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith described the fire as "significant and tragic" and said it was affecting many military personnel.
Canadian Forces Base Wainwright is one of Canada's busiest military training bases, where soldiers prepare for combat operations. It is home to the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre, which conducts realistic battlefield exercises, and the 3rd Canadian Division Training Centre, which provides military training.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Bad decisions were made regardless what the initial "incident" was. There were really high winds in the region over the past two days. Any kind of accidental ignition or fire was going to be a problem. There was almost definitely an explosion of some kind, and then the fire spread. It sounds like it spread to ammo storage areas to make matters worse.

Canadian Forces personnel had been conducting exercises over several days when an artillery projectile reportedly struck an active natural gas well on the bombing range, triggering a massive detonation,, according to reports.... The blast is said to have levelled nearby tactical training buildings, with subsequent fires reaching munitions storage and setting off secondary detonations across the range...
Gas well under bombing range detonated.
This sounds so insane I’m hoping it’s not true.
