Is this due to the low altitude they fly? Hurricane planes fly through hurricanes. I’m just curious why they couldn’t be used at all? I can see not picking up water off a body of water maybe also. But why is flying through 50-100 mph winds that bad for them?

They're also not flying over or around open ground (or over the ocean). They're dealing with mountainous and wooded terrain. It is already a challenging endeavor in that environment, when you add large fire into the equation it is more dangerous. Large fires can create their own weather with rapidly changing wind, updrafts, and downdrafts. Add high winds to the equation and regular flights befome incredibly dangerous.

She is so fricking dumb. Seriously just pick someone at random in the phone book, and they’ll do a better job than this.

This reporter mentions lack of preparation.

Thats very interesting, I didnt think preparation played a part in leadership or decision making for that matter, or at least that what I've been getting told.

I thought it was wind.

I'm glad Kristin sent Karen Bass a letter and all but Kristin's hiring practices need to be reviewed.

Some great points.

Sounds like you are informed on the topic. Were you a wildland firefighter or USFS or something related?

Any recommendations on good fire books to read?

I've read a few from Philip Connors that were solid and would enjoy learning more.

Exactly, who gives AF if they look like you. When I fly I want that older man with the white hair and mustache that doesn't look much like me and I'm sure most black people would say the same.

Well Cenk, democrats haven't had to answer tough questions for decades so they don't know how.

Maybe look into why that is.

I'm not a firefighter. I have a couple of friends who have done it, one retired after 20 years. I've just developed an interest in wildfire over the years, and I've read and listened to a lot of stuff.

Two that would always he recommended by anyone who has done that sort of work are "Young Men and Fire" by Norman Maclean and "Fire on the Mountain, which was written partly by Norman and finished by his son John.

If you want some good insight from John Maclean he did a really good interview on a podcast called Life with Fire.

Ep. 4—Firefighter Safety and The History of Hotshots With John Maclean

One of the more interesting interviews on the topic of wildfire that I've listened to in a while.

I can't stand Kamala, she's a POS too, but that was wrong of him. He completely threw her under the bus with that one.

L.A. Fire Chief Kristin Crowley warned Mayor Karen Bass (D) last month the $17+ million she cut from the department's budget "severely limited the department's capacity to prepare for, train for, and respond to large-scale emergencies, including wildfires"

She is correct, but how money did she spend and/or waste pushing her DEI agenda that could have gone to increasing “the department's capacity to prepare for, train for, and respond to large-scale emergencies, including wildfires”?
