It isn't an easy skill to master quickly.

Reading radar is easy to pick up and the best way to protect yourself. You don’t even have to go to school for it, like Ryan Hall.

Lots of tornadoes look like they’re passing just west of us in Laurel

Winds really been picking up here but that’s been it so far

Are they though? Seriously. Nearly every rotation gets warned.

Taylorsville just took a direct hit. The TDS blew up as it passed through.

Taylorsville debris signature just picked up considerably, unfortunately.

I was speaking specifically to tracking actual hail on radar.

A lot of QLCS spin ups are missed. Discreet supercells like today are easier. But you still have scan delays. Most tornadoes are so short lived that they can touch and be over between scans. But you still see a lot of polygons not pop up until the CC drop and by that time it’s been on the ground long enough to cause damage that’s been picked up by the radar.

As we usually do. Law of averages says we'll take it up the arse at some point, but EBR proper underperforms the warning levels far more often than not.

I’m so ready for this to be over. It’s stressful and worrying.

I’m with you. We had either a strong F2 or a moderate F3 roll through my neighborhood 9 years ago. I believe that I am scarred for life since then. It somehow feels like I live in a miniature tornado alley since then. We’ve had a few smaller ones come close to us, but that one absolutely rocked our world.

frick tornadoes.

Patrick Bigbee just got choked up as he watched the debris field roll directly over the city of Taylorsville…

I didn’t see that. I was using that as a set up for a snarky post. But yeah really any radar use is easy to master if someone puts a little time into it. And it’s worth it.

It looks like Bassfield was spared, if you can call the last 90 minutes being spared.

Wind is gusting down here in Fayette County. We’re having our kids do a sleepover in our basement tonight. Thinking about keeping the helmets and tennis shoes down there as an extra precaution

Has a significant tornado ever touched down inside the Baton Rouge city limits?
