Does anyone know if the Hwy 82 bridge is flooded out? Never been that way, but I need to get to Houston Sunday evening, and I would rather not drive through Shreveport to get there.

Also, what about Hwy 190 through Merryville?

My dad left Houston around 5 this morning and texted me around 730 saying that he had made it across the border on Hwy 82 with very little traffic.

That's the route that Google is giving me on Maps now so I'm sure the amount of traffic will increase as the i10 closure continues.

LSP is advising people not go this way due to heavy traffic. I'm headed to Houston tomorrow and plan to go this way.

Anyone have any updates on 190? The LADOTD site no longer has it marked at closed. Can anyone confirm?

The local traffic people here in Houston tell you the recommended route is still through shreveport, though hwy. 82 has always been an option. I sure as hell am not going all the way through shreveport to get to baton rouge.

The causeway on LA Hiway 82 from Johnson Bayou has low tides from 6:00 AM to Noon each day. Regardless it is not expected to be flooded. The excess water will disperse into the marshes and swamps, therefore the tides will determine the water levels.

So there are no closures on 190 eastbound?

Coming from Houston, may hit 190 at Beaumont. Map on my phone is showing closures near Starks, vidor, and deweyille

A portion of the area upgraded mainly because of the risk of large hail.

and a watch is probably coming soon, the big concern with this is that anytime you get convection moving through there is the risk of heavy rain. It shouldn't be widespread but no one needs anymore rain.

Same here. I hope all is clear by Good Friday. If not, along the coast of La is where I'm heading

there should [definitely be] some new investigation into how the water should be released in the future.

Not necessarily trying to knock on the SRA as they obviously did what they felt was needed, just curious if it can be improved.

I'll knock them. Yes, they had to open the floodgates to save the dam. But the problem is they have kept the lake at it's max since at least December, and had 5-7 days of forecasts calling for 15 inches of rain and did nothing to draw down the lake ahead of it, literally until it started raining. They wouldn't have had to act to "save the dam" had they been sensible before it got that bad. If they had taken any sort of action prior to the rain, they could have mitigated this, at least some. It would have still been bad, may have been pushing or around the prior record, but they could have kept it from being 6 feet above the prior historical record.

so to answer this question:

Couldnt there have been a slower release of water that would have prevented the flooding of the interstate? I'm sure there would have been some issues in the Toledo bend area, but you wouldn't be shutting down a major cross country interstate.

Yes

Just get to 82 in Port Arthur and you will be fine. Its as easy as putting in where you need to go in google maps.

State Police is saying that the traffic has been super heavy. Add a holiday weekend to that, and I can only imagine the chaos on a two-lane highway. Push comes to shove, then that's what I'll have to do.

Late at night or early morning it's just steady. Of course, I have to drive on it in the afternoon... Sulphur/Carlyss is a clusterfrick trying to get to Lake Charles.

It looks like 12, which you can get on right outside of Beaumont, is now open which is faster than going south to 82.
