LaGuardia has grown on me a bit since they renovated it Never had many issues at Detroit - inside the airport is pretty nice these days. My least favorite has always been Newark. If I never see that place again I’ll be happy.

Between pre renovation LaGuardia and Newark getting into metro NYC used to be pretty damn bad. Those two were like greyhound stations.

Are there any cities in the South that have snow plows as a part of their inventory?

Terrebonne Parish…

About 20 years ago, the former Sheriff purchased some surplus Deuce and half’s from the military for hurricane response for high water rescues. A year or two later, he then realized that those were going to be of no use if there is debris in the road. He then purchased snow plow attachments to clear the road of storm debris.

For the “snow event” in 2017 and few other times, they used them to break the ice on the Twin Spans and US 90.

Things must have changed. BWI was my go-to in the 90s.

New LaGaurdia is nice. It’s just those runways can tie things up.

Detroit is a good airport - but being stuck in the airport for 14 hours makes it tedious.

last time i flew through LaGuardia, I arrived at 10 AM, and we didn't fly out to Atlanta until 4AM the following morning. it was not renovated at that time lol.

O'Hare can kiss my arse.

I have slept in Several Airports over the years traveling - the best was Denver, I did not mind it - Atlanta and O'Hare are by far the worst. was stuck in Atlanta for the Snowmageddon, and with all the people stranded, the airport could not see fit to keep stores open past 10, and never even bothered to make the WiFi free - had to use that Boingo shite (at the time) - I ended up using my cell Hotspot and working.

Yeah, if that model were to come to fruition, from Louisiana to Virginia wouldn't move for over a week.

How accurate was this model for this past weekend?

About as accurate as a one armed blind man in a skeet shooting contest. In fact the models have backed off any winter precip for south Louisiana next weekend.

You're not supposed to ask that.

Don't look at 9 pm next Tuesday on the Noon GFS.

But yes seriously, the models last week were a dud on the SELA snow potential.

Unless you count the magic snow few other places according to social media that reported something that looked like snow but evaporated like a fart in the wind.

a lot of shifting in the models still, GFS is back on as of right now. Let's look at what the 12z EURO shows next.

There weren't any models showing winter precip for the gulf coast once we got within a realistic model accuracy range. A little less than a week out everything locked onto the I-30/I-40 snow event. We're still 200 hours out. The most important thing right now is that the cold air remains in place.

I was getting alittle excited when both the GFS and EURO were showing a snow day next Monday in south Louisiana. The 12z GFS is back on showing a decent snow and the Canadian is mostly sleet/ice.

I still have ice up to 5 inches thick on my driveway in spots. I just ordered a propane tank flame thrower from Amazon.

This is what we call an “ensemble” of models. Looking all the way out from now through January 22, right now about 13 of 100 models show an inch or more of snow in Birmingham. “So you’re saying there’s a chance…” Sure, and we did actually get snow last week!

quote:

But that means 87 of 100 models have either no snow or less than an inch of snow next week, which won’t get the same amount of attention. This is why we can’t give a yes or no answer to the question “Will it snow next week?”, but speak in terms of percentages instead.

quote:

What we can say is monitor the latest forecasts. Also, what we can say with more confidence is there is a 70-80% chance of below normal temperatures this week, though how far below normal remains uncertain.

That's my wife.

We flew into there on our honeymoon back in '04 from Atlanta to connect to Portland, ME. We came in right over the water and it freaked her the hell out. She still hasn't gotten over it.

I saw the ice. If that pans out, good luck with heat. Pretty sure we will be needing ice skates to get around and Entergy will be busy fixing ice stretched power lines.
