So is it geography or atmosphere that lets BR proper miss 95% of the worst of these weather events?

People 25-50 miles from me dodging tornadoes and all kinds of shite, and as usual we get a few claps of thunder and some rain

The area gets more tornadoes and overall severe weather than you probably think, but yeah......it is geography as it relates to the proper conditions. Most of the big Pacific troughs that lead to our "red letter days" just don't often dig far enough south to bring the best parameters to the area. It usually takes an associated short wave or a Gulf system to get things going at a level more common a bit farther north.

Here are all the recorded tornadoes in the area dating back to the late 1800s:

The Indian Mounds are an ancient weather control device. I’m only half joking.

So, we ended up with about 7 inches of snow yesterday, and then 1/2 inch of ice on top overnight. I can walk out in my yard and not break through the ice in some spots.
It's snowing now, and our temps are in the teens. 1-3 more inches today.

I'm going to try this afternoon to dig out some, but I'm not sure I can even get into my garage as the ice is frozen up against the door. Will play it out later I guess.

Ryan is now showing 6-9 inches snow. One model had 14 yesterday.

All together we ended up with right around 9. It's lightly snowing right now, so that'll add to it.

Some pictures from this morning:

Got some bird pics from last night before the sun set as well:

Dark Eyed Junco

A rather rotund American Robin

Female Cardinal

Male Cardinal (got a little hard to see with the freezing rain)

Our 8 year old couldn't be happier that they are calling for snow in arkansas at the end of the week.

The frigid cold Temps suck without having some snow to enjoy. I was out late last night checking on our well shed. We just aren't set up to handle Temps in the teens with 30mph winds without some special attention to our water supply.

A few years ago when it was in the single digits I thought the well equipment had foze despite my best efforts. Turned out that ants seeking heat had gotten into the contacts of a pressure switch.

Take it easy. I went out to help the HVAC guy get unstuck at the end of our driveway. This is heart attack snow.
