Since when is being an a-hole, a rapist, or a bully considered "masculinity?"
That in itself is the problem with this movement. I for one have never associated that with masculinity.

I think the point is that men should raise future men to be good men and respect everyone.
You can still be a real man.

choosing a political side is one thing, criticizing the essence of what it is to be a man is another. It's social engineering. Can you imagine the outcry if a company told a woman what is and what is isn't feminimity?
Just think about how much hilarity SNL or similar could generate with this if we didn't live in such a fun-free era.

Or maybe you missed the entire point. When people refer to toxic masculinity they aren't referring to all masculinity. That's why they used a fricking adjective.
The things they are criticizing are in fact toxic. That doesn't mean that all things masculine should be considered toxic.
Do you even understand English bro?

They want complete gender neutrality

This is why we can't have actual discussions in america. There are people (on both sides) who prefer to resort to exaggerations such as this to disprove what are usually much simpler claims. See also Reductio ad absurdum.
What was exaggerated about his post? So you dont think responding with blanket "you are just exaggerating, so go sit down and shut up" comment isnt a problem? Or do you do that cause it's reality flew right over your head?

No doubt, but let's say that's Gillette's intention. They're still responding to a "movement" who has far different motivations and the last thing those elements want are for you to raise good, respectful men.

Example. Women shouldn't dress like a slut = how dare you tell me how to dress!
Woman dresses like slut = stop objectifying my body, you sexist pig!

From the 30 second ad that we have to go on, I'd have to say that this is their intention.

I'd say the MeToo movement has been sputtering over the months.

You seriously believe that when "people" use "toxic masculinity" it's used only to refer to things that are actually toxic?
The other poster may be exaggerating a little, but give me a fricking break.
quote:
Toxic masculinity refers to society’s expectations of how a traditional male should behave. Ideas related to toxic masculinity have been normalized in society; comments like, “be a man,” “that’s girly,” and “man up” stem from this attitude.
quote:
The bottom line is toxic masculinity harms all genders. It promotes sexism, misogyny, violence, and rape culture, while enforcing dangerous stereotypes of masculinity and femininity. It is a fundamental pillar in the patriarchy and its normalization throughout cultures demands action. Next time you hear comments that promote toxic masculinity, remember to call them out; taking actions to disband this mentality are necessary in order to dismantle the patriarchal structure.

Toxic masculinity is saying men are less emotional than women
etc etc
There isnt a single rational human that doesnt think men should be good people who dont rape and pillage

Their response, if you listen to the dialogue in the commercial, is not to align with MeToo but rather telling men/customers, we're sick of having to defend ourselves against this shite. They want the few to quit making all of us look bad....be the bigger man and step up and say something when you see a man doing something that you know is toxic behavior.
Also, how in the frick are some of you managing to make a message about "being a better man" somehow political? It's not political in the least unless you believe one party is for raping and bullying and the other party isn't?
fricking grow up. Step away from the damn news for 3 weeks and get a fresh perspective on YOUR life. You don't have to be angry about everything and driven to insanity by some dumbass commentators on TV or on your favorite websites.

Really? If you don't see the problems, no wonder you're so "offended" by this commercial.
