Easier than wire tying that nut on the gas tube.

Firing it from the shoulder doesn't look too bad but carrying it could wear you out.. 30lbs fully loaded..

Sure, but I don’t think GI Bro in the OP is talking about using it tactically

Even Animal Mother is not doing what the OP asks. Using a wall or rock for a big arse tripod.
And does the weapon alone weigh 25 lbs. ?
What about the belt of ammo hanging down while standing at an average man’s height? That’s 5’ of .308 rounds dangling and the weight of whatever material hold the rounds in a “belt”.
Any military Baws on here to explain what that material is? I do not know. If I were ever in the military I’d have been a RN version of Hawkeye on MASH.

Nope for numerous reasons and more listed in this thread. Rambo is fantasy land

The links holding the rounds are pretty light. The rounds are heavy as shite though. Maybe another 6lbs for every 100 rds. It would be hard as shite to fire it from the shoulder. I've only done it from a bipod.

I don't know about a M60, but I've humped a 240B (plus my ruck, IBA, Kevlar, etc) for 12 miles, and that shite was not fun. The only thing worse is the poor AG having to hump the tripod.

The M60 weighs 23.5 pounds unloaded and I can tell you from experience, held at arms length for punishment is absolutely brutal after a while. I don’t recall what I did to earn that punishment but I can assure you, I’ll never do it again.
I qualified expert on the M60. I never shoulder fired but I imagine it would have been a beast. From a bipod or tripod you can light something up out just about as far as you can see accurately.
On a tripod you can use something called a terrain and elevation adjustment “tool” and walk in your fire via turning knobs. There’s enough slop in the T&E that it’ll fire a figure 8 pattern over a small area.
Using those tools you can be as accurate as you need.

Not sure about the shoulder. But I was at Benning in 1995 for basic and AIT. The expert shooters got to shoot I think it was around 15,000 of dated rounds. It was a blast.

That was on purpose to the guy I was replying to. I've never had a Budweiser of any sort because Jane Fonda is a traitor.

I qualified expert on the 60. Firing it from your shoulder would be just plain stupid. That's Hollywood BS60. That said, it is one fun son of a bitch to fire! Short soldiers are usually given the task of carrying the 60 because of their low silhouette. Thank God I'm 6'2. That bastard is heavy.
