I think this is an oversimplification. I think a fairer take may be the people who know they're upper class, outwardly claim that working the checkout at Walmart is an honorable and productive piece of work and may or may not back that up with effort, but would nonetheless quietly push and hope for better for their own children.

Those words have nothing to do with what I wrote and you quoted.
This isn't about some nobility of being poor. They are LARPing AS the working poor and trying to pretend the system left THEM behind. And they're not talking down on people working at Walmart, but those who shop there (while making $30k/year and being the actual version of the LARP-avatar they created).
