This shite is ridiculous. People taking comments out of context and blowing it up.
Kids go to college to learn, it seems like these days they're just learning how easily to get offended and get what they want.
I knew exactly what he meant when I read this.

They're frustrated by this quote from LSU spokesman Lt. Kevin Scott in the student newspaper "The Reveille":
"If you surveyed 100 girls, or 1,000 female students on LSU's campus, will you really see one in five that say they've been sexually assaulted, if they're really being honest?" Scott said. "Is that accurate? I mean, look at the numbers."

The University released the following statement on Lt. Scott's behalf Monday night:
"Sexual assault is something that we take very seriously at LSU, and I'm glad to see that the LSU community is concerned about this issue. As I said previously, I have worked throughout my career to encourage the reporting of crimes such as sexual assault and to make the LSU campus a safer place for all, and I would never question the honesty of a victim. The way I was quoted in the Reveille is not at all what I was trying to say, and while I certainly didn't mean to create a misunderstanding, I am glad that so many are speaking out about this issue and taking a stand."

The 1 in 5 number is heavily debunked.
Posted on 4/12/16 at 11:22 am to Slinky
i guess it all depends on the chicks definition of sexual assault

Would any parent really send their daughter to a place where she had a 20% chance of being sexually assualted?

1 in 5 is an absurd number.

He's 100% right, but the narrative doesn't care. He will be tarred and feathered and run ot of town.

1 in 5 girls at LSU had sex with a random guy and regretted it.

It's becoming a very broad definition. Take it seriously and stay out of trouble.

Not many things get me going quite like a sexual assault debate. Far and away the most frustrating thing from both sides is the fact that it usually devolves into an argument that clouds legitimate sexual assaults.
One side thinks it happens to everyone, the other side retaliates by arguing every claim is false and all women are out to get them. It's infuriating.

It's an ambiguous Term. I doubt 1 in 5 have been anything close to raped

That depends on whether you're one of the "if you got wasted, had sex, and regretted it then you were raped" crowd or not.
That pushes the number up significantly.

I blame that fifty shades book. Somehow that smut made sexual assault "cool".

"He just condoned the raping of women everywhere!"

I agree completely.
A woman goes out with friends, has a few drinks, goes home with a guy, doesn't necessarily consent to the encounter and they end up sleeping together. She wakes up, doesn't know how she feels about it. Legally, if she did not consent, she was sexually assaulted. A lot of female college students don't realize this and they end up just leaving it as it is.
My GF feels very strong about this matter. It's insane. People need to be accountable for their actions, whether its the female drinking too much and not verbally consenting, or the male taking advantage of the female not being able to consent.

Good thing he only questioned 1 in 5.
Gotta be careful questioning numbers in this day and age.
If he had questioned a number like, 6 million, well then he'd really be up a creek.

The number pertains to sexual assault, not rape. In a legal sense, the terms are far from synonymous.

Have they designated a "safe space" yet?

As one of the organizer's of tonight's discussion I would note that there were a number of ideas put out on the table and none of them have been agreed upon as a course of action for our effort.
