If you destroy something as integral to the culture of this city/state as the LSU mascot, it's going to draw the line in the sand that we need.

Why? What did Troy H. Middleton do?

Yea. I'm no sjw at all. But this letter is hard to ignore. It's been a topic for several years now before this cancel culture shite. Just rename it and we can still appreciate Middleton for his service to country in WW2.

He should have stayed off the Twitter machine on that one

The quote below is from the Reveille. It amazes me how these SJWs can dig up dirt from so long ago on people that have been dead for decades.
"October 27, 1961
Then-LSU President Troy Middleton wrote a letter on desegregation to University of Texas-Austin Chancellor Harry Ransom. "Our Negro students have made no attempt to attend social functions, participate in athletic contests, go in the swimming pool, etc. If they did, we would, for example, discontinue the operation of the swimming pool."
Middleton went on to write, "At no time has a Negro occupied a room with a white student. We keep them in a given area...""

They better not go after “Tigers.”

The letter looks bad from today’s view, but it was the way things were back then. Take note that Middleton had integrated LSU and he is explaining the compromise of allowing black students and managing their residency in accordance with Jim Crow Laws and the wishes of his bosses, the LSU Board of supervisors. What Middleton is describing is not HIS policies, but THEIR policies regarding black students. If that is enough to strip his name from the library then so be it, I disagree with it

Its only a matter of time. I've been saying that since the name of the plantation room was changed.

If inter-species marriage is allowed 100 years from now and we are against it in 2020, are we future bigots?
