The LSU Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Thursday to eliminate some diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs in its university system.

The resolution, made public only moments before the board voted on it, passed without objection, though every Black board member except for Chairman Jimmie Woods — Collis Temple, James Williams and Valencia Jones — left the meeting before the resolution was voted on.
quote:
DEI statements in hiring will also be banned by the university following the board’s action Thursday.

It’ll be implemented more subtly

How is that MFer still on the Board? Pathetic.

Race pimps don't like you messing with their gravy train.

They'll just rename it. And it's not DEI anymore. It's Bridge.

This whole movement to publicly draw back or remove DEI departments seems easier to see through than a Kamala Harris take

DEI is racist. Meritocracy is not.

Yep, and they’ll just rename it like they renamed the entire fricking department. This is just to improve the optics of a vile, discriminatory, unconstitutional, and racist program.

It’ll be a good day when Collins Temple is no longer associated with this university. Some community “leaders” cannot move on and relinquish their power. He was a trailblazer at LSU and I admire him for that, however, his time has passed.

Throwing tantrum like a child is unacceptable from leaders.

... or maybe this is their method of not being obstructionists?
Politics is a game of chess not often understood by those not sitting at the table.

I had to speak at an Illinois CLE seminar where my topic was DEI. My them was that DEI programs always seem to create a huge bureaucracy that (1) makes a lot of statements about DEI, (2) creates largely meaningless jobs, and (3) does little to create actual diversity.
The Illinois Bar paid a lot of money for a DEI study. It made recommendations, none of which actually created diversity. One legitimate complaint was that most bar committees were all or predominantly male. I thought the solution was easy: appoint more women.
Here is a list of the "accomplishments" of the ISBA committee on DEI: They are absurd.
1. Completion of the first ever statewide diversity survey.
2. Completion of the first ever diversity survey within the ISBA including the Board of Governors, Assembly, committees and section councils and professional staff.
3. Launch of the first diversity website.
4. Continuation of the Diversity Matters newsletter.
5. Development of the Diversity Leadership Award recognizing significant contributions by
individuals or organizations in advancing diversity.
6. Recommendation to establish a Diversity Leadership Program to increase diversity with the ISBA.
7. Creation of the Diversity Pipeline Project including the 100 Future Leaders Pipeline Project.
8. Reorganization of the diversity-related committees within the ISBA as well as the establishment of the Diversity Leadership Council to coordinate committee work and outreach efforts.
None of these are "accomplishments." "We identified 9 bar committees with all male members and made arrangements for the next appointee to the committee to be a qualified female attorney."
This is typical. Create a program. Do a survey. Create leadership councils. Reorganize. No action is take to ever actually do something about diversity itself (e.g. appoint more women to bar committees).

What are they gonna do with the new $50 million center for diversity equity and inclusion that they replaced Middleton library with?
