Pam has another bar now called The Bookstore (which she also bartends at). I’ll go visit her there from time to time and we talk about all the craziness at Slinky’s.
Pam was finer than frog hair in the 1990s.
I wonder if she's a Sophia Loren now.

They're a local small business too, that fills a specific need for that part of campus. I'm sure the owner feels like hes doing positive things for the area as well.
Nah, the need was already largely met by Highland, and Cherrybomb has little-to-no seating. This is their 3rd location and the owner was a Southeastern student, so I highly doubt that he really cares about anything but his little square of concrete and any profits that it produces, otherwise they wouldn't have opened on Chimes St. in the first place. Think he's going to be an active and contributing member of the Northgate Merchants Association like Highland's owner, among other things? Probably not.
Don't get me wrong, I'd certainly be rooting for them if they were located just about anywhere else, but they decided to set up and directly compete 2 doors down from a longstanding community staple.

Looking at this situation from strictly a business perspective, I’m surprised they didn’t seek a location on the south side of the campus. There seems to be a greater density of apartments and customers within walking distance on that side. Quite possibly they did but nothing was available or economically feasible.

Or charge a fee for outside drinks.
Will only cause conflict.
As someone in the industry, every time some a-hole brings a cake in, we charge a cake fee and the customer berates the manager for it. Like, a few times it seemed like it was going to get physical.
My solution: no more outside food. But then they get confrontational because we are "ruining" someone's birthday.
Most of our clientele are well off, educated professionals.
People are assholes who think the rules don't apply to them.

This is so pathetic.
but then you added this:

Cherrybomb is the best coffee in south La
When I’m in the mood for a real good cup of espresso I go to the one in Madisonville

That continued into the mid 2000s at least.
It was the one reliable dive, where if you played Fat Bottom Girls, every girl in the joint (and there were never many, most of the time) would target you with purpose.

Normally I’m a free markets guy but this is a POS move. You can park your food truck almost anywhere… just a disrespectul move if anything else
Basically canabalizing the only successful business on that street, nonsense.

It’s two different owners
Guy who owns the pad owns several properties on the street and is trying to breath new life in the neighborhood
Seems short sighted to put a competitor in there against one of the only businesses on that block that has survived for +10 years
Lots of restaurant turnover there basically nothing survives

Are we acting like the northgate area is alive and thriving?
This seems like the most soft argument ever. Some limp wristed college students arguing about coffee and acting like some competition is going to put you out of business.
If a trailer selling coffee is going to make you close up, maybe you should rethink your business model.
"Highland Coffee is a staple of the community!"
So was Blockbuster. Good luck loser!

Why do you think the French quarter has rules against these food truck assholes that don’t pay any overhead?
Incredibly dumb to fault highland for wanting them removee

Yep. Has a much smaller bar now and still bartends 3 or 4 nights a week.

Who cares where it is parked? Is this a real thread? If enough people care, the truck will not get business and it will fail and move. If enough people visit the truck, then there was a market for it.
Maybe it's faster. Maybe it's cheaper. Maybe the coffee is better. Who knows the reasons someone would go to cherrybomb over highland coffee.
There's either a market for the "better mousetrap" or there isn't. What kind of communist society do you people want??
