Perception or not, if you have the chance to go to a top 25 school or one of the military academies (which are probably top 20 anyway), you should probably take it.
After that, it gets more situationally dependent.

lsu/harvard students learn the exact same thing in the classroom. however, your typical lsu students are generally much more impressive overall.college admissions is mostly based on gpa, test scores, and race. most harvard students spent their time studying and have good numbers but they lack social skills and athletic ability. example: your typical asian dude. the average lsu student played sports, volunteered, attended church, and joined other groups. they didn't spend all their time studying because they were busy doing other things. otherwise, they could have gone to harvard.
and yes, us news has a bias against southern or conservative schools.

According to US News and World Report, LSU ranked 133rd among best colleges, on par with UK and U of Arkansas, but behind 9 other SEC schools.
Not impressed.
Rankings carry alot of subjectivity. Back in the 90s LSU was ranked 2nd in Petroluem engineering then dropped to number 4 with Stanford taking the #2 spot. The kicker was Stanford didn't have any students in Petroleum engineering.
I went to several schools before graduating and from that experience I would be more concerned with rankings and job prospects in major. I've definitely seen students from supposedly high ranking schools leave me unimpressed.

otherwise, they could have gone to harvard
Um, no.
Harvard has a 5% acceptance rate. No one gets in, which is what makes it prestigious.

What is the average income of LSU grads versus other colleges?
That's what really matters.

Your really prestigious schools put out a lot of real pussies, whereas LSU breeds a certain level of go hard into you.

As soon as that St. George city line gets adjusted to include the campus, they'll jump up at least 60 spots.

Does this mean we will lose to Bama again?

Usually the only measure that universities use to determine rank is how many dollars they spend. Efficiency, quality, results, etc. are completely irrelevant.

best story here is that Berkeley is #1, tied w UCLA. Step up Haters.

who is doing the ranking and using what criteria?
Posted on 9/12/17 at 3:46 pm to CAD703X
Hellifino. go read the article, bizzitch. and recall that i'm a 3rd gen LSU grad.
Still love to see all the bitching on here about CA and Berkeley in particular, coming from #133.
p.s. I applied to Berkeley Law School, but wasn't diverse enough. Probably laughed at my undergrad degree too.
