Four year universities keep devaluing their education at every turn. It makes less and less sense for most people now to come out of pocket for that cost. "The experience" is the main driver now, and even it ain't what it used to be.

Plenty of classes cancelled last minute during my time in early 2000s

Honest answer?
The collective whole of society is becoming drastically more selfish. And that increased selfishness is particularly pronounced in academia where horrible incentives make it extremely difficult to hold people accountable.
Unfortunately, even broken institutions don’t face repercussions when when they’re propped up. So while a small number of colleges are working damn hard to change the broken incentives that are begging to be exploited by selfish professors, most universities don’t fall into that category. And it’s unlikely that they will face any real consequence for it for a long time.

Yeah I was gonna say a freshman commuting to class and his dad complaining about class being canceled is a sure sign of getting zero bitches. I bet he's a computer science or electrical engineering major.

Is this a real class like math, physics, Biology or chemistry, or some worthless elective?
I’m don’t ever recall a class being cancelled when I went in early 2000s although I didn’t get a worthless degree.

Yep, people are learning that liberal arts degrees are useless, taking a bunch of classes completely unrelated to your major is a scam, and tuition is unreasonably expensive. Unless you get a STEM degree, you can probably make more money by pursuing a trade

Why are YOU paying for it? Stop babying your child and let them pay and learn some character and responsibility.

Sure makes paying for a dorm worth it doesn't it? Could do all this from home just as easy
I could be a professor then.. just put up some online videos and come up with a few exercises to do. Easy as hell.
That's pretty much what my son's college online class is. Ends up me or his mom teaching him the course.
Online learning is fine for electives and all that bullshite... but when it comes down to core classes, online has nothing on in person.

Piece of paper and connections to job market. Your boy could learn Everything in a library… Likely won’t get him a job though

The age old question from parents who have freshman students at LSU.
The answer you're looking for can be found in Tigerland. fwiw.

My econometrics professor missed/cancelled 17 times one semester and it only met twice a week. Then would say, idk why you guys don’t understand this?!

Our son did not attend LSU, but was enrolled at one of the Florida Community Colleges near Orlando. He used our car or we dropped him by the school. After a while, we didn't see grades or anything about his progress, so we inquired as to his status. They wouldn't provide it without an OK from him due to FERPA "protection." Your son may be honest about the teachers cancelling class, but don't necessarily settle on it being a teacher problem. In addition, make sure you and your son READ the syllabus--the syllabus is a legal contract between the school and the student. Both parties need to live up to their agreement--should the Professor not do so, there needs to be an inquiry as to why the professor/GTA/Instructor is not providing what the institution promises.

No kidding.
Back in my day, my parents didn’t give me a red cent for tuition at LSU.
I got sent a check every semester from the state to attend classes because I wasn’t a complete moron.
Your son shouldn’t be given a free ride from mommy and daddy either.
