He’s right.

I enjoy asking the liberal friends I have after buildings are renamed or statues are removed if they feel safer, more diverse, more included.

It’s not about any of that. It’s about pushing the envelope.

For it or Against it, i don't know where he truly stands. What I do know, is he does not want to preside over a university that is going to lose a shite ton of donations over something that is more petty than anything. I know of a few donors that have already started to withhold their donations due to "things the university is doing".This is his way to try and stop the bleeding.

100% this. He is playing politics. Yes, some of these concessions are in pretty staunch opposition to his peers. These are good things. But in no way do I think this is a point where we can say something like "this is actually a good hire". The sample size here is way too small for that.

I am concerned with his academic history. But so far I like what he's doing.

I could honestly care less about his politics so long as LSU is welcoming of people with all kinds of world views and the university climbs in the academic rankings.

He is winning me over.

I'll reserve judgement until his first interaction with the LA legislature. I attended a few of his open interviews during the hiring process. He touted his ability to build and leverage relationships with legislators.

Seeing how much trouble LSU went through in their last budget process gave Tate insight on where to choose his battles. Renaming buildings is clearly more trouble that it is worth.

I don't understand the hubub about Middleton. They handled that poorly. And it was all for nothing since that damn Library is scheduled for full demolition and replacement....eventually.

Tate said he would have consulted experts on what effects building names with problematic histories have on the community
He already answered this in the paragraphs prior. None.

I hope they come at him.

And I hope he drops the race card on them.

It's next to impossible to be worse than F King Alexander.

But I am on the same page as you. He's showing promise. He has about a year before he is expected to show real, meaningful results with the moves he is making.

F King Alexander left LSU far worse than when he found it. Tate doesn't have an easy job. Everything he is doing has to be done quickly to right the ship.

At some point, people who manage institutions are going to have to better evaluate how the sky screamers are managed. Up until now, the reaction has been "let's bulldoze everything we don't like". That's not sustainable and it seems like Tate is taking the sky screamers to task.

Honestly, I'm starting to come around. I know he's going to push for diversity, but he seems to at least be level headed about it and know that renaming buildings doesn't do shite. That being said, I'm still skeptical due to his background, but this is nice to read.

I think this is a good place to be. A couple things:

1. As the flagship, public university of the state of Louisiana, there's nothing wrong with LSU doing all it can to be sure that ALL of its students feel at home there. LSU is diverse. It has to be inclusive too.
2. His background is that of an accomplished scholar and administrator. You might not like what he studies, but he's good at it -- and it has value as an academic pursuit. That's different from his role as an administrator.
3. From what I can see, he's a pragmatist. He's there to do the right thing for LSU. Sometimes we'll agree with him. Sometimes we won't. That's how it works. But the guy is a pro. I'm glad he's up in baton rouge.

Still do not like how he handled vaccines in the fall, so it will take a bit more for me to come around.

I am by no means an expert on CRT, but I do know that one common theme in the movement is their discontent of the way liberalism shaped laws, specifically affirmative action. This puts them at direct odds at times with white liberals, who as everyone knows, controls academia in America.

It is obviously much more complex than that, but there are certain ideologies within CRT that would surprise most people.

Right. There's nothing wrong with having a debate about ideas. But the problem I have with many critics of CRT is that they don't actually know what it is. They just repeat what they hear critics saying. It's actually not even close to being the thing I often hear it portrayed as. Debate is good. Informed debate is better.

Galligan did more damage as an interim president than Tate or any full time president did or will, excepting the Fking Alexandar shmuck.

Tate's been given enough of the reins to please the leftist prog filth but not enough to hurt LSU fundamentally.

MIzzou is a testament of full wokism. Louisiana cant afford that financial hit.

Let's not forget he also allowed Woodward to hire an old white guy as the next head coach. Honestly, he's been surprisingly not a disaster.

I asked this in another thread and caught some shite for it, but has he quietly been a very good president?
