He's right. They cause wear and tear, take up parking space and security resources, and contribute nothing. It's a pet peeve of mine that LSU provides a free fall festival 6 or 7 weekends a year for the dregs of the Greater Baton Rouge metro area. Look around. There are a lot of people who are pure trash. I wouldn't mind a little gatekeeping at all.

Go to a PGA event then numbnuts

You know what teams don't have to worry about "free festival types"? Teams that suck. LSU athletics makes the money it does because of people like that along with the same type of people who are fans of other schools in the conference. That is why ESPN started the network and the schools get so much money. Because of the die hard popularity of people who are willing to sit in the heat or cold to just be near the stadium.

If you don’t think that King and Alleva want to figure out a way to charge to tailgate you are a fool.

They already charge you to park on 90% of campus. Forcing people to buy these packages or "rent" space would send the remaining people away.

Close friend was in a meeting with them when it was stated that they consider everyone who comes to campus but not to the game “lost revenue” and that they want to figure out how to capture that $$$.

Well sure. That's what any good business-owner would do. There are plenty of ways to monetize those individuals without forcing people to buy tailgating spots.

Apparently their die-hardedness doesn't extend to buying a ticket or ponying up for the costs their presence incurs. The term for that is freeloading.

Yeah all those tailgaters don't bring in a dime to LSU or the surrounding businesses

I am a huge LSU fan. I don't have money to spend on a ticket to the game. I'm not a piece of trash and if I go tailgate , frick you for thinking that.

By all means they do. But you’re acting like upsales and monetizing more of your operations is some foreign concept. The key is balancing that with the customer’s loyalty/commitment to the brand.

My loyalty took a hit when they began roping off the campus where you couldn’t park anywhere that wasn’t reserved.

Then another hit when so much more became reserved parking. Campus gameday access sucks.

And traffic leaving has never been worse.

LSU has already gone too far in the monetization direction. The worst of the trash is still gonna show up no matter what.

Easiest way around this would be to tailgate without anyone wearing or displaying Greek letters. Just say you're a group of students if ever asked. They can't make you admit to being a fraternity in a public setting.

Such bullshite. LSU is turning into a serious nanny school. What happened to self responsibility?

Oh, you mean like ensuring the Parade Ground doesn't look like a North Baton Rouge war zone on Sunday mornings? I'm not blaming the frats exclusively here, but what tailgating does to the interior of campus is pretty crappy.

They are slowly renting those spaces out. Within five years, I guarantee you that entire area will be leased for tailgating.

This pisses me off so much. The entire world just keeps gravitating more and more towards this sterile corporate culture. Frankly with the way LSU is being run now, part of me wouldn’t mind just watching the program burn to the ground.

When this has been brought up before, the Rant's default response has been "let the prisoners clean it up." So here we are, the tailgaters have shat their own bed and are losing the privilege.

I can't help but notice the similarity to the stories in the Katrina thread about refugees befouling their shelters. Apparently it's not all about race or culture after all.

I think the frats would prefer to tailgate at their houses.

...the DKE’s have tailgated in their house every game for the past 20 years

It all gets cleaned up. I’ll take a raucous atmosphere that gets a bit messy over a sanitized and boring one.

Not really, it's always been a good area, even back when the frats we're at the house. They are pushing people out that have been there a long time.

Most of the problems are not from frats...... but from the trash trying to scoop up the crumbs
