They’re admitting and recruiting minorities, regardless of qualifications.

Surely that can’t be true.

That either. Our kid was very high scoring and some good extras, but not quite that high and had no problems.

well..if they'd stop admitting everyone with a pulse this wouldn't be an issue. we're still paying for the F king Alexander years, and while Tate did a lot of things I liked he didn't really address overadmitting head on....this is the result

Ok , I looked it up.

There are 218 sections of English 1001 being offered at LSU for the fall semester on campus.

Wholly Gymcrack.

Did some work for that place about 5 or 6 years ago when they did that major overhaul and it was pretty bad. They threw that thing up so fast that they cut every possible corner. I’m surprised they didn’t completely condemn that placed based on water damage alone.

You driven through campus the last couple years? I do weekly and i do not see ANY white kids and have not for the past 6 years.

I guess my neighbor could be lying to me and the rest of the neighbors but i doubt it.

I would be very interested to know LSU’s student makeup demographics if anyone has that info.

Friend of mine does the same and says the same exact thing.

Do you know how long it takes Baton Rouge contractors and subcontractors to do a job if maintenance is required? They’re horrible.

I’m not saying the apartment company is blameless but student housing is a rough game. You’re pretty much guaranteed most of your tenants give less than a shite about the place and won’t be long term anyway. You’re catching transient residents with barely formed brains.

I blame LSU mostly for letting everything with a pulse into school now.

The noun "sections" is plural, the verb "is" is singular. The verb needs to be plural to match the noun, so "are". Sign yourself up for a section of ENGL 1001.

LSU put on the absolute worst tour and it was not even close. We were dumbfounded at how poor it was. My oldest still brings it up.

You got unlucky. Colleague of mine from Boston has a son at LSU now for some kind of Engineering. LSU invited him for a tour…he visited many places and was set on some school in Florida. Convinced them to bring him to tour LSU for the sake of leaving no stone unturned and he loved it.

Wait. You are saying the following is correct?

Does anyone know how many sections of English 1001 ARE LSU offering this fall semester?

I could see "Does anyone know how many sections of English 1001 are being offered by LSU this semester?" But not the other.

Enrollment drops a lot in the fall, and they don’t need the extra space. Maybe they should quit pushing growth and identity politics over substance and quality to keep more of the fall students enrolled in the Spring.

With all the money A&M has I read that the new President is pushing slowing down or limiting student enrollment growth while they build out the campus and resources to better support higher enrollment. Maybe whoever LSU hires should be looking at doing the same.

It's just basic subject verb agreement. Singular subject, singular verb. Plural, plural.

ETA: The argument could be made that "how many sections" is either collective or quantities of a unit, in which case you could use a singular verb. But it's not really a collective noun like "team" and sections aren't usually something considered as a unit (like kg, lbs, etc).

ETA, again: Really, I just wanted to make the joke about English when talking about English 1001. It does look a bit strange as "are" even if it's techncially correct.

I think this probably correlates with US demographic trends as a whole. Folks under 25 are a lot less white than they were even 15-20 years ago. Only 50% of today’s 18-24 year olds are white. That’s at the national level…couldn’t find specific % for Louisiana. But since more students are coming from out of state it’s probably still a relevant stat.

normal white folk actually care about their kids. Looking at other options before sending your kid to a top 5 dangerous std infested city for a below average education shouldn’t be surprising
