LSU is a public university governed fully by the First Amendment. As a government body, LSU cannot sanction a student, faculty member, or other employee for expression that is protected by the First Amendment. There is no hate speech exception to the First Amendment, so while the expression referred to in the original post is deeply offensive and hateful, it is fully protected. The student is fully entitled to the admission that has been granted by the university.
That doesn't mean that people cannot express their own views about his expression and stand in opposition to what he said. Individuals should not be subject to harassment, but those who object to what was said also have a right to free expression and can state that they object.
The U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that hate speech is legally protected free speech under the First Amendment.

Hate speech is also free speech. You do have the right to hate . I would not advise it but that's part of free will.

LSU has rescinded his admittance
Look, what the guy said is really offensive, and he deserves serious criticism.
With that said, he cannot be punished by the university for speech that is protected by the First Amendment. If he has had his admission revoked, and if he is really committed to attending LSU, he should contact the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), which takes on colleges and universities that violate the free speech rights of students and faculty. I hate what the guy said, and he deserves to be called out for it, but as someone else said there is no hate speech exception to the First Amendment.

As weird as it might sound, the ACLU should support him as well.
Several years ago they provided legal assistance to a high school student who was suspended for wearing a Confederate Flag belt buckle.

It’s well known you were in prison. No use denying it

What is hate speech? Thought the Supreme Court said there was no such thing?
They said pretty much the opposite. They held there is no 1st amendment exception for hate speech.

I think all the black athletes should quit the teams and transfer. I bet lsu would find a reason then to deny his application! I bet most of you won’t try to defend his freedom of speech then!

I love LSU sports as much or more than most, but I would refuse to be held hostage over it.
I would go all Keyser Soze and tell them to frick right off.

You mean the 60 days in parish prison for probation violation?

i have no idea whats going on but if you look at the black lsu topic on twitter it looks like this whole issue has somehow turned into an LSU vs SU debate lol

The Southern folks give the LSU black students hell about not going to an HBCU. The LSU students respond by saying they are trying to get a better education......haha

Anyone that posts about “black LSU” doesn’t have the right to lecture anyone about racial issues.
