Mom's is fun, I'd watch a game there. But again, younger crowd. Kind of a weird mix of hipster and frat, but makes sense considering the area.
Younger crowd is mostly weekend nights. I've watched Saints games up there with one of the owners, who is a friend and a Saints fan.
Never tried a daytime Bama game. Will be interesting.
FTR, I think Avondale is also serving liquor now. If not by now, they will very soon. And yeah, biggest screen in town outside behind the stage. Probably have a food truck of some kind.

My in laws live around there. It's a nice area. I've just never gone out of my way to eat at a Cajun restaurant in Alabama. It might be good though.
If you need a legit recommendation for a good Cajun restaurant in Birmingham, try The Rougaroux: LINK /
Edit: I should have read the whole thread, as I see this has been recommended.

What is the deal with these private bars in Birmingham?

No offense, but you seem a little old for Mom's. I'm guessing you've been before, but it's basically the ideal hipster dive bar. My buddy lives just down the street and go every now and then, and I feel like such a cracker.

They can stay open later if they are "members only".

Baumhowers just opened in Vestavia on 31. Location moved from Hoover
Haven’t been yet but heard it’s like any other sports bar: lot of tvs, okay food

I've heard nothing but good things but haven't had a chance to go when I'm over that way. I'll have to make a point to stop next time I'm over that way because good Cajun food is a vice of mine.

I had a Hot Sausage Poboy there that was waaaay too salty. Pretty decent seafood gumbo. Service was terrible, looked like one preggo bartender and a bunch of soon to be hairstylists running the dining room floor.

How many of those does Bob have?
I stopped at the one outside Mobile on New Year's day to watch LSU in some bowl game I can't recall (I think they were playing Iowa???), and it was horrid all around.

Somehow, he has around 10. I don't get it. It's a shittier BWW with a BAMA flair.

I've heard good things about this place, but haven't been yet. I need to go down there and see what it's about. With that said, I'm not sure what their game day setup is like.
Food is really good. Definitely best LA food in Bham. My only complaint is that if I go get half a po-boy, cup of gumbo, and a drink i'm sitting at basically $20.
The do a cool thing for the Saints games where they will have an all you can eat buffet during the game. Menu is a limited menu, but for $15 it is a solid deal.

Gotcha. What is normal closing time vs members only?

Has the Walk On's at the corner of 280/119 opened yet? I seem to remember an initial opening date for August, but I guess they ran into some construction issues?
Not yet. They are making progress, but still has not opened.

Most bars shut down around 2am, some stretch to 2:30. The "member's only" places it is a crap shoot. Some shut down at 4-5 am, The Nick is open 24 hours friday-monday.
Andy by "members only", when you go in and they check your ID, you fill out a membership card. That is all it is. It is a joke.

Wasn't Courtyard 280 24/7 for a while?
Posted on 11/5/19 at 4:07 pm to HempHead
I think it might have been at some time. Can't really remember, but that sounds accurate.

While we are on the subject, what's the best venue in Bham to watch a football game? We are almost always watching the game at the house or my neighbor's house. I have an On Tap and Billy's near me, but rarely go.
There aren't a ton of great sports bars.
Paramount is definitely solid. wings and food are good, and plenty of tv's and drinks.
Avondale has actually been pretty sweet to watch games at, especially since Good People took over. Their beer has been noticeably better. Plus you can walk to Saw's, Post office, Hot Diggity, etc for food when needed.
Sky Castle is a cool place to watch games and drink, but food is garbage.
Moe's BBQ is lakeview isn't bad.
Depending on the food truck they have, Cahaba has been pretty solid as well.
