I went to LSU. I will always love the back in the day version and I will always cheer for the sports. I'd always hoped my kids would want to go there, up until a few years ago. It's sad but I don't see that changing.

Really, because last I checked LaTech was much more respected as an engineering school than LSU. Maybe that’s just on the border states…..which (other than MS) are all better states from overall lifestyle than f’ing Louisiana, unless you’re a lawyer in politics.

Went there for undergrad and I still regard that as my most carefree time of life and it was a great experience. Wouldn’t trade it for many things. I am pushing my teenager to go elsewhere because of what BR has become. It was sketch when I went 20 years ago. It’s on another level now. The liberal woke bullshite is everywhere so it’s not so much a concern of mine. I’ve done my best to instill a good moral value set with common sense political views in my teenager.

Yes. Great school. I got a great education that has taken me places of which I could never dream. My entire life would not have turned out the same if not for LSU. CLASS of 1971

OP is specifically asking about the accounting program. The four largest accounting firms in the world recruit LSU. Collectively they have offices in every major city in the US, and most major cities around the world

So yeah, I’d say LSU gives him more than just a local opportunity.

Oh and just for fun

The discussion is surrounding accounting, not engineering.

Louisiana Tech is you must have a degree from Louisiana.

If not, get the heck out and don’t look back.

LSU is higher rated but again, if you didn't go to Harvard or MIT nobody gives a shite. If you spent 30k per year going to the #20 college in America you just wasted your money if you're expecting some sort of prestige paycheck from it.

Expectations set well!

A lot of LSU's recruiting success in Internal Audit is based on Dr. Sumners

He uses some weird system of having the Big 4 bid on undergrad students, and having the students bid on their Big 4 choices, at apparently at his complete ultimate control.

This causes significant hardship among the fresh students that don't get their top two choices. I don't know how it works with grad students, but already having a degree in Accountancy should probably insulate you from most of the bullshite, but give you access to recruiters commensurate with LSU, particularly in Internal Audit, being a near kingmaker.

I've met enough people that graduated from Sumner's CIA program that I regard him as a power hungry a-hole (never having met him.) All you really need to do is get into events, including recruiting, that go to the Ourso College of Biz. Make friends there, with whatever you major in, and show up to events. Maybe getting a masters in ISDS (Information Systems and Decision Sciences) could get you in the door, but also give you the creds to do IT Audit in addition to financial stuff. The classes are easy, even at the 3000/4000 level. My most important takeaway was my Chinese professor for Databases say, "Do you undastand what PHD stands for? Pizza hut derivery!" ISDS 3310, IIRC. Very important life lesson from a joke.

Tour the campus. See how many buildings have working air conditioning from day to day because the water chilling lines are broken.

Go look at things like the toilet seats in the bathrooms and see how many of them are pocked and discolored (seriously, what the hell causes that to happen, and why are there so many disgusting toilet seats on the campus). How many of the soap dispensers are broken and / or empty. How many of the hand towel dispensers are broken and / or not refilled regularly?

Go to the "Main" Library on a weekend when they are supposed to be open at 8am for LSU Online finals, and when hundreds of potential top students and their families are on campus for State Rally on the same day, but everyone is turned away because they won't open the doors until hours late because... who the frick knows why, and no one will give you an answer.

Look around and count the gas generator lighting setups around the parade grounds that are straight up burning money that we apparently have an excess of to spend, but some departments can't get teacher slots funded to replace those who retired or left, and other departments can't afford to pay the people that do the work that keeps shite running at this place fair, professional wages on a scale more up to date than one created in 1984.

This isn't the same kind of place that had a bowling alley, a pizza place, and a candy shop / news stand in the student union. But you can pay career services likr $20 to help you make a resume after dropping however many K over the years.

I went to LSU. Got 2 degrees. I now work there. I am always disappointed in how the alums of LSU talk trash and bash the school. I don’t like many things that have happened (i.e. Middleton name removal) but i’ve worked in higher ed for decades, if you think this is just an LSU thing, you are mistaken. It’s every public university. So, I would 100% want my kid to go to LSU and they did of their own choice. To each his own, but telling an 18/19 year where they can or can’t go to college is a bit much. You have to let them grow up and choose their own path. You don’t have to pay for it, but it should be their decision. Fortunately, LSU will be fine with another record freshman class incoming.

I wouldn’t pay MORE to attend LSU over a comparable school. The best quality of LSU is it’s affordable in state and gives great scholarships to out of staters. If you could do the same graduate degree at Indiana State or something for cheaper, then I’d do that.

Tech people always roll out the Engineering argument even though Tech does not have a better Engineering program than LSU. Never understood that angle.

but I read from some posters who are very upset with the university's internal politics.

Some people take things too seriously. I wouldn’t let them affect my decision with their political opinion. I’d listen to their opinion regarding the bang for buck that comes with the LSU tag.

For what it’s worth I’m an La resident and I’m gonna get my MBA at southern miss because it’s cheaper

It's usually a matter of options in terms of admissions and money.

If money isn't a barrier then I would absolutely not recommend LSU. There are lots of great colleges all over the country that are in better areas.

If we're talking LSU vs. McNeese then absolutely 100% LSU.
