You should look at it this way. The Alumni Association's main job is alumni engagement. In other words, they try to drive up the numbers of LSU alums who give back to the University, and they try to strengthen alumni interaction with LSU.
The amount that you give to the Alumni Association is not as important to them as just giving a gift. Raising the percentage of alumni who donate is important because the annual college rankings take that into account when evaluating universities.
So... if you want to help the Alumni Association out, give something.
If you want to give to LSU academics, give to the LSU Foundation, and tell them the college or department you want to support.
If you want to give to athletics, give to TAF.
It's not about what you get as much as what you give. If you're not a giving type, then these organizations may not be your thing. Nothing wrong with that... but they have to ask. That's their job.

I always wonder if they vette those blurbs in the class section, to confirm they aren't bullshiteting or that they actually graduated.
Can't imagine they do.
They might have confirmed independently but why bother with verifying most of that stuff? Usually mundane.

Honestly, if you live outside of Louisiana it is. I get perks from mine here in Texas where it’s nice to have a biannual golf tournament, networking events, happy hours, and watch parties.

When I worked as a travel nurse from 2002 to 2012, I attended alumni events in NoCal, SoCal, AZ, NY, and NV. Without having to join, I went to some pretty cool events and met some really nice people. If you travel like I did, you can get away without actually having to join, but if you are in one particular area, I would recommend joining.

I never understood this. I went tailgate the Nicholls playoff game this year. Obviously I am an alum of the school. Multiple people giving me shite because I don’t pay or or have rinky dink sign out there. frick that. They got enough money out of me. If anything I should be getting something back.

I mean I have had a few tours of the stadium/football ops building, some opportunites at cheaper tickets, and the free food/booze at the alumni tailgate.
beyond that, not really. Do I get my $50 worth out of it a year, sure.

Did you have a scholarship?
Have a favorite professor?
Have a class/lab/building that you liked?

LSU received enough of my money for years. I'm not giving them shite. I'm an alumni whether I join the association or not. frick them and their shitty arse administration. Just frick them.

That attitude is why LSU will never be a top university
