Students can choose to get their grade or pass-fail.

I suspect that in the harder subjects/majors, the professors will be keeping a keen eye on who does - and doesn't - opt for this.

One of my sons friends is pissed off that universities are doing this. He's in his last semester of law school at GW and has been busting his arse to get cum laude and they made the final semester pass/fail so he now has no shot at it.

My son is getting his ME in May. He had one lab and his design project. He's taking the P -- he's having a hard enough time caring as it is.

I suspect that in the softer predicates/minors, the students will turn a blind eye to who does not or does opt out of this.

Not sure how P/F screws him here? Unless he did poorly in the beginning of school, and his peers did well throughout. Kudos to those who get to coast in their final semester.

If he wasnt already in position to get cum laude he probably wasnt going to pass up people in his last semester.

Good for the students. I can't imagine what its like having your semester disrupted like this. Having everything online sucks.

Students have the opportunity to accept their letter grades meaning his GPA would still benfit should he choose that direction. Its the student's choice to take P/F in lieu of letter grade

My son chose fail by mistake. Hope this doesn't hurt his future job prospects.

When I was in school, I did 12 hours of courses in a 1 month online summer session. There's a large amount of dedication and discipline you have to have in a fully online setting. I can see where that's not for everyone and certain people would struggle being thrown into that format.

We had a first year teacher at our school resign the morning of the March 13th. JBE made the decision to close schools that afternoon. If she had hung around for a few more hours she could likely have collected a check until July for doing absolutely nothing but sitting at home. Lol. The world is cruel sometimes.

Agree, and it's not just challenges on the students' part, as some professors are unfamiliar with how to teach their classes effectively in an online format. Some are good at adapting, and some really suck at it.
