Cousin is enrolling in LSU this fall and has this as his declared major.
He's working as a pipefitter helper with Turner and wants to get into industrial upper management.
Anyone on here have this degree? What can you tell me about it?

I used to work with several guys who went this route and all seemed to be doing well.
Yes, you can at first work easily as a foreman or superintendent, then move onto project management. Plenty of jobs out there.

Class of 07. Been a good degree. Tell your cousin to get into the field while he’s young. That’s where you learn how work gets done.

One friend got a degree in CM and he’s a director in oil and gas firm. Another friend is a general contractor. Both do well. Neither has ever been out of work, laid off, or fired.

I have a couple of friends that I graduated with that got construction management degrees. All have been very happy with their choice of degrees over the past 30 years. One went into project estimating and project management for maintenance shutdowns at plants. The other works project management on commercial building construction.

Lsu has a good CM program. We hire folks from there often and have not had any that are duds.
I do think the graduates from this program are more exposed to industrial or residential type construction and less highway or heavy civil but that isn’t there fault.

Your cousin is smart because people with plush office jobs like you have will be unemployed soon.
Construction, home service businesses like plumbers, electricians, etc will be the ones banking in this country in the future
Want to really make bank? Learn how to weld.

My dad made a good living with a CM degree. This area actually does have a good bit of jobs in the field too if he wants to live in LA.

I graduated in finance but wish I would have switched to construction management. Solid program / career path.
Know LSU is planning on building a designated building for CM in the next few years. Should be near PFT.

My best friend got this degree from Mississippi State. I would describe it as a half business degree and a half engineering degree. He is a project manager for a pipeline company. He does very well.

My best friend has this degree and is a very successful mortgage lender.
I wouldn’t trust him to construct anything.

I love it, the degree has alot of benefits.
He's gonna shite himself when he gets to his capstone course and he's has to do a team project while studying for the exit exam AND the CAC.

Most construction management graduates flunked out of engineering
Most people that flunk out of construction management end up as pipe fitters
Your cousin is getting great experience for his future job as a pipefitter
