When I was young my grandparents told me that when you see lovebugs it means they have a storm in the gulf. Over the years I've paid attention to that and a lot of times it's true.
lol, maybe the storms have something to do with august & september, as do the annoying lovebugs.

I have noticed that they seem to be attracted to the sound / vibration from the lawnmower.
Start mowing - there are a few around, within minutes there are hundreds more and the surrounding yards seem to have a lot less than the random number when I started mowing.
Anybody else notice this? - it's annoying as frick!

wasn't it the comedian sam kennison who did an impression of a love bug, one time only?

Before we even begin to work on the lovebug elimination project we need to address mosquitos of any and all types. Any animal that dies off up the food chain is worth the risk if mosquitos are gone forever.

I've always thought it was the heat they were attracted to. That's why they're always thick on the interstate.
My question is are they a southern phenomenon or nationwide?

I knew about ladybugs. I released 1500 in my garden a couple weeks ago. If love bugs don't eat pests, then frick em.
But growing up in Florida, I always heard they were created on as lab to eat mosquitos. But they didn't do the job they were supposed to

It's something in car exhaust that attracts them.

Just southern. They're from Central America so they can't take the cold. We don't have them here (or any other insects for that matter).

Believe it's lady bugs that eat aphids not love bugs

They are for the benefit of car washes and auto body shops.

As I understand it, birds don't like love bugs because they are really acidic

Lovebugs are subject to some significant natural controls, such as various parasitic fungi, and dry weather—which dries out the thatch resulting in a higher mortality rate for the immatures.
Well, we're friked this year
