Gov. Landry signed the bill yesterday. Orders can begin on August 1. The bill was proposed by Chasity Martinez and amended by Senator Kleinpeter.
The black plates will be called “We Will Never Forget Caroline and Maggie.”
Awesome

Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, both students at Brusly High School, were killed in December when a police officer pursuing a suspect in a high-speed chase crashed into their vehicle. Maggie’s brother, Liam Dunn, was also in the car and suffered severe injuries, spending nearly a month in the hospital.
In the wake of unimaginable loss, Maggie’s father, Randall Dunn, has launched the Margaret “Maggie” Edline Dunn (MED) Foundation in honor of his daughter. The foundation aims to carry on Maggie’s spirit and create positive change in the community.
I had to look it up, too

The "Classic Black We Will Never Forget: Caroline and Maggie" is a special prestige license plate authorized by the Louisiana Legislature to honor two Brusly High School cheerleaders, Caroline Gill and Maggie Dunn. The teens tragically lost their lives in December \(2022\) when an officer ran a red light and struck their car during a high-speed police chase.Key details of the specialty license plate, which requires 1,000 applicants for production, include a black background, white text, and a $25 annual royalty fee supporting emergency vehicle operator training. The plate is eligible for various vehicles including cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Information regarding the bill (HB 801) and its status can be tracked through the Louisiana State Legislature

I just read options for blacks. This is not the thread I thought it was going to be.

Not to sound insensitive, but why honor them specifically?

Every Charger and Challenger will honor them with a black plate.

Finally, LA can make progress!

I’m so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful girl and her death was an avoidable tragedy! It was heartbreaking for everyone in the region and even the state.
The idea of better training is a good one and I support that idea.
I have to say, however, that I’m not a fan of creating this specialized license plate in their names. It individualizes a common source of tragedy, death by auto accidents, inappropriately, IMO.

It sounds insensitive, but it is a valid question. Does the plate have any specific reference to the girls? Or is it just a black and white plate? If the latter, it doesn't seem like it really does anything to remember the girls specifically. So is it just a way to get black license plates for aesthetic purposes guised as some "altruistic endeavor" by a couple of legislators?
Also, does Louisiana have any other such plates to memorialize private citizens? If not, it seems like this could open pandoras box. I certainly understand the desire to remember the poor girls who were killed by, from what I recall, an unnecessary incident. But does that open the door for any person who died by any means to get an honorary license plate as long as they can find a local legislator to support it?

thank you for the kind words. I was not thrilled at first either. The more we thought about it the more it made sense to us ( at least).
selfish, yes, every plate we see will remind us of our daughter. the $ raised from the plates will go to police training on pursuits so hopefully by the grace of God , no other parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, will have to go through what we have gone through. So honestly, yes it is bitter sweet. we know, not only was Maggie an organ donor(which she has impacted 47 peoples lives with her organs), she will continue to help others become safer or at most, less chance of a cop chasing a bad guy causing more collateral damage. ( which is crazy, because she loved that movie)
