Who are the frickwads in these 30 towns in Louisiana that don't have their communities signed up for the the National Flood Insurance Program? Scroll to the last page to see communities NOT participating.

If you have property in those communities, even if you are in a flood plain, you cannot participate in the program.

This is our getaway lake house on Caddo Lake.

This is it in late March this year when the area got 21 inches of rain in 3 days.

Another inch or two of rain and we'd have been underwater. The community is Mooringsport. They don't participate.

Guess I'll have to start a petition or something to get the city "leaders" to do something.

So you're saying you've got a lakehouse, right?

So in other words, you decided to post about North Louisiana while South Louisiana is dealing with the worst flood its ever seen?

Way to go, frickwad.

No one cares about your lake house when some people have no house.

camp in independence, raised, didn't get water... yet the power of the current underneath house shifted joists and all kinds of racket causing structural damage. More than just about water in house sometimes.

Hey, all I'm saying is north Louisiana flooded 5 months ago. Yeah, it's a valid topic, but doesn't have a damn thing to do with what is going on RIGHT NOW.

Plus, this is the OT. Don't people give each other shite for stupid shite all the time? Man, ya'll take shite to serious.

Not the point. Ignore the photos if it makes you feel any better. The point is everyone in South Louisiana has the option to purchase flood insurance. I don't. Not before the flood this March. Not after. And I'm not alone. So the question is, what is so difficult about participating in the program that some lazy arse politicians or town managers don't sign up their communities for the program so that their property owners can purchased protection?

ETA* in the interest of clarification, Yes, I can purchase flood insurance. I cannot, however, participate in the NFIP program like 95% of the rest of the state can.

There are a couple eye raisers on that list depending on where a camp or home is located. Chatham in Jackson Parish needs to get off that list. The lake there flooded bad in March. Dubach, Lillie, Marion, and Spearsville were other areas that could see flooding with the various bayous and creeks that feed Darbonne backing up. Unless there have been changes Bernice has properties on Darbonne addressed there. Darbonne flooded bad this past year. Junction City (on there twice) is good, Athens is good, Vivian is good, Vienna is good, and Hodge is good of the ones I recognize. I have friends and family in quite a few of these communities. I am sending this to them to see what has been done since the flooding back in March, or if there has been anything done. Thanks for the find Bubba.

the names of those towns (or whatever they are) sound made up

perhaps they don't meet a population requirement or something?

Can't you still buy flood insurance? It just costs more.

NFIP is when the community spends money on things to help reduce flooding, etc. That in turn helps get rates down for flood insurance. You bought a (2nd) house on a lake and you're wanting you're community to adopt this program so you can pay less for flood insurance? Did I catch that right?

You can purchase flood insurance for your lake house. Your community just opted out of taking a handout of subsidized insurance. Good for your community.

What determines whether a community participates or not?

They are all small incorporated towns in N. Louisiana, but so are many of the ones that ARE in the program.

What's interesting is that Caddo Parish is in the program, but only if your property is in an unincorporated area. If it's incorporated, the town has to sign up for the program.
