Although people who take kratom believe in its value, researchers who have studied kratom think its side effects and safety problems more than offset any potential benefits. Poison control centers in the United States received about 1,800 reports involving use of kratom from 2011 through 2017, including reports of death. About half of these exposures resulted in serious negative outcomes such as seizures and high blood pressure.

In 2017, the FDA reported 44 to 47 deaths related to kratom use, with one caused by “pure kratom.”
That was my mistake. Supplement makers are required to report serious adverse events that are reported to them. Though it sounds like many of the sales are happening on the streets and not through supplement makers, so it's kind of a moot point.

The rest resulted from mixing other drugs with kratom, including fentanyl, diphenhydramine, caffeine, and morphine.

Which is basically the reason the FDA clinical trial process exists. See if something actually works, find the right dose range, and assess side effects vs clinical benefit. And if this shite was so great, wouldn't the evil pharma companies already be all over developing it for market?

Who knew that mixing kratom with fentanyl could cause some problems?! Ban that shite!!!

I mean it looks like this is bull shite legislation anyway. So kratom will be banned IF the FDA re-classifies it as a schedule 1. Well no shite, you don't need new legislation for that, it would be banned by federal law anyway.

Well one would hope that elected legislators who are vested with significant power would be able to review actual documentation and not be swayed by the words of a few people. They are supposed to be more intelligent than just a common jury.
Hahahahahahahaha
You have Hank “Guam may tip over” Johnson and the one and only Cajun John Wayne In the US House of Representatives. You think locally elected state legislators are more intelligent?
Representatives are exactly that, representations of the intelligence and character of their constituents. You already called the people of LA dumb and backwards, why would their representatives be any different.

Argue for kratom (or any other topic) on its own merits.

Kratom sure as shite isn't something to take lightly. Like anything else, if used responsibly and within reason, it can do really good things.

Not to mention, I'm not exactly sure who is out there right now yelling "go take your percocet!" It's quite the opposite, in fact.

Kratom is the shite the Arabs sell behind the counter in their gas stations.
I have never heard of any "healing" properties from this shite.
That's probably the biggest issue right now with kratom. It's similar to CBD in the sense gas stations started selling some bunk arse shite and slapped the label on it.
If you get it from a reputable source online it's legit, just like CBD.

Kratom is on the Federal Law enforcements site as a drug to monitor. The attempted to make it illegal last year but the Kratom Lobbyists prevented it.
Any substance that acts as a stimulant in lower doses and reportedly has a sedating effect at higher doses is a bit of a risk, especially for dumbasses that are using other drugs. Even legal prescriptions may pose a threat.
I am not against Kratom at all. I would like to see some clinical trials based on dosages and whichever strain they are using. The Kratom producers are constantly altering their product. I think a little accountability is called for right now.

If Kratom didn't give you any type of buzz, it would be classified like a million other supplements and no one would care. But for some reason the government feels like it's their job to ban anything that can give you a buzz because they deem that wrong.

Kratom has worked wonders for my back pain, along with reducing anxiety.

That they know about. It's still not subject to FDA reporting.
