I know them all and they're close family friends. Good people.

1) Reduces the jury trial threshold from $50,000 to $5,000

This would create gridlock in the court system and made this bill destined to fail. The idea that insurance companies would willingly reduce rates and lower profits without being forced to is laughable.

So let me get this straight. The shitty legal climate in Louisiana has nothing to do with absurdly high insurance rates. It's just those devils at the insurance companies picking on poor Louisiana by jacking up their rates.

dude, its par for the rest of the country. All 46 states have thresholds less than 15k, 3 at 15k and LA at 50k. Its absurd.

its a free market economy. We have to change our state's political climate in order to entice further competition in this state. The idea that you are eating up the lawyer's arguments and just wanting to pad their fricking pockets is pitiful.

It would actually do the opposite. More cases would be settled out of court. As proven in the states that have the $5,000 threshold.

And someone skipped out on marketing and strategy days in school. Customers are price conscious more than ever. If a group of analysts for just one insurance company can justify lowering their rates, others will follow suit to avoid poaching of customers.

This isn't rocket surgery.

Congratulations on buying the propaganda.

The next highest threshold is $15,000.

36 states don't have a threshold.

Most claims are under that $50k because lawyers want bench trials. Adding a jury causes extra headaches and costs.

Yeah because all know the insurance companies always do what is best for the consumer. There is a middle ground that can be found but so far no one wants to do that.

judges are politicians. They aren't going to rule against tommy the claimant and voter over the insurance company over a mere 25k claim. Insurance companies got the monies.. they should pay my voter... look at me the great judge in orleans parish!

My insurance rates in Virginia were 1/2 of what they are now here in La. No changes in drivers or cars. Whatever system or laws they have there, just cut and paste that shite on the books here. Funny, not many lawyer commercials or billboards there either.

I already carry uninsured/under insured because I assume the most likely is some jackleg without enough insurance is going to hit me.

And even then, when someone without insurance hits you, it's still a bitch to deal with.

I got hit by this girl who failed to yield because she was messing with her radio instead of looking at the road. She actually did have insurance, but she got it 2 days before the wreck, however; it supposedly didn't kick in until after a month. Long story short, it was an absolute bitch to deal with..

With that said, Louisiana pays more in auto insurance than California.. Which is pretty much the only thing that is cheaper in California.

There is a middle ground but it ain't $50,000.

The arguments against the proposed reforms are pathetic. The state is such a cesspool.

politicians want to make it against the insurance companies like its them being greedy.

bottom line is the reform is about the consumers. it's about us saying this shite is enough and making real climate changes against things that make it difficult for companies to write auto business in this state. Nothing changes over night and we've had decades of losing the battle.

There's a segment of this state that is just fine with the status quo. Suing someone is viewed as an escape from poverty. The actors on the commercials make it seem like they just won the lottery.

Not taking a position, but if a plaintiff doesn’t want a jury trial, wouldn’t a lower threshold like $15K make the plaintiff attorneys stipulate that their damages are not above the threshold, thereby lowering damages against insurance companies which would hopefully lead to lowering insurance rates?

It's going to ruffle feathers here, but car insurance is 1/2 in TX too.
