So even though we have the most people who have deep roots where they live, we are still stuck at either #49 (Thanks Mississippi) or #50 in any positive metric.

MS has moved up to 47 last I saw. Ahead of LA, Alabama and either Arkansas or West Virginia I can’t remember

Bruh. They have some rural arse places in Louisiana. Cheaper than anywhere you’ll ever find.

A couple weeks ago, a typical jackass OTer started a
thread full of condescension but basically calling on Baton Rouge residents to defend living in Baton Rouge without using Family or LSU as reasons?

No matter how hard you try and what statistics you lean upon, you can't make us hate our hometown and state in the same manner we can't make you understand why we love living here.

I think the risk of hurricanes alone is enough to keep a lot of investment away from South Louisiana.

sure doesn't hurt Florida or Houston

What's funny is you hear some people talk and talk and talk about how great New Orleans is and it's the most wonderful place on Earth, but they actually live in Mandeville.
Did you find the 1 person in Mandeville that likes NOLA? Or did you mean to at Kenner/Metairie?

I don’t think Mandeville people are the ones very high in Nola being lovely….

why do you even visit Louisiana....other than an event in New Orleans?

You are not going on vacation here.

The secret is out, you visit Louisiana, you don’t live in Louisiana.

And less are wanting to even visit. We peaked at 53M tourists and are now at 41M annually.

“La people don’t leave La.“

My parents were the exception and left LA in the 1960’s for the Mountain West. My father loved it. My mother never got over leaving LA. Hiking, fishing, camping, hunting for three seasons and a lot less mosquitoes! And we still ate Southern food, so it was a win.

There is no way Mississippi tops Alabama in most of these lists.

Pretty sure Mississippi farm land is generally cheaper than the Louisiana equivalent.

Lol.

Our state is literally the a-hole of the nation (MS River empties into Gulf). I have a love hate relationship with our state. Born, raised and worked here all my life outside of 2 years.

Reasons I’ve stayed:

1) would 100% move if my mother and brothers weren’t here.

2) Hardcore saltwater fisherman though I’ve slowed down since our camp was blown away for the 8th time in Grand Isle

3) My brothers and I have nearly 1200 acres in Waterproof in Tensas Parish we own. This was passed on to us by my grandfather and then dad. It’s just 4 of us that hunt it. If I had to pay a club/ lease to hunt where our property is, I couldn’t afford it. Louisiana gets looked over when it comes to whitetail but we kill big deer and the population is incredible. If you have a place along the MS River from Madison, Tensas, Concordia, W Feliciana, it’s hard to beat anywhere. We’ve been incredibly blessed.

ETA:
4) Work is another reason. I have a great job but I’ve had offers of up to 15-25% increase in salary but I’d have to move to SETX. I love Texas and if it wasn’t for those things listed above, I’d move. Especially family and the hunting. I’d have to go West Texas or South Texas to kill the deer we kill

Hot take- I like living in Louisiana. I travel the US constantly for work and am always glad to get home. In theory I could live anywhere in the US and do my job. My wife would could make a LOT more money slinging pills in other states vs Louisiana. But Louisiana is our home. Basically I like to see homo's naked. What I mean is, home is where you make it.

My family has a ranch in south texas that I hope to own at least part of some day (it is huge).

If the land was in Louisiana I probably wouldn’t ever leave there either.

How far do you live from your land?

Would you feel weird moving away so far from your land?

Why leave paradise?

Something about the soul beats the something about consumerism for me.

Although, I cheated. Moved away for years. Returned to paradise.

Soul happier than ever.
